  1. Post update

    Alfreton 0-0 Walsall

The home side have won a couple of throws in advanced positions so far and have a long-throw specialist in Adam Lund who is causing some real issues for Walsall.

The second of which leads to a corner but it's safely dealt with.

Decent opening to this cup tie.

  2. GREAT SAVE!

    Alfreton 0-0 Walsall

    Walsall close to scoring again.

An excellent through ball finds front man Freddie Draper in the area.

He shoots right-footed on an angle and George Wills saves well for Alfreton with his legs.

  3. 'That's very soft'

    Alfreton 0-0 Walsall

    Martin Keown

Former England defender on BBC Sport

It must be down to contact on the goalkeeper, but you look at that and think that's very soft.

I don't think there is [contact], George Willis gets away with one there.

That's an early let-off, it might ease the nerves for Alfreton Town.

  4. DISALLOWED GOAL

    Alfreton 0-0 Walsall

Walsall have it in the net but the goal is ruled out!

Tom Knowles won a corner for the visitors that was whipped over inswinging from the right.

It floats over everyone, deceives the goalkeeper and finds the far top corner!

But the referee blows a foul on the keeper and Alfreton survive!

  5. Post update

    Alfreton 0-0 Walsall

A couple of mistakes in the early stages on this pitch.

One allows Tom Knowles to slip into the right side of the area for Walsall but his ball across goal is blocked back to the goalkeeper.

Early signs that it won't be easy on this surface.

  8. Fighting out of the Red Corner

    Alfreton v Walsall (19:45 GMT)

Jake Day will hope to land a blow for Alfreton this evening.

The 31-year-old was an amateur boxer in his early years before he switched to football in his 20s.

"The FA Cup is all about dreaming. We're a part-time team. But we're trying not to get ahead of ourselves.

"Walsall is a big, big game and it will be very difficult. They'll want to reach the third round as much as we do," he told BBC Sport.

  9. Alfreton through the rounds

    Alfreton v Walsall (19:45 GMT)

Alfreton's cup run began back in September with a trip to the coast as they knocked out Cleethorpes, of the Northern Premier League Division One East, 4-2.

Then came opposition from even further down the pyramid as AFC Emley, from West Yorkshire, were beaten 1-0 in Derbyshire.

Macclesfield, nowadays in the Northern Premier, were then seen off 3-1 at home to reach the main draw.

The first round proper saw another kind draw with Worthing, from the National League South, making the trip north. Two goals in the final quarter saw Alfreton through.

They now try to reach the third round proper for the first time in their history.

  10. Banana skin for The Saddlers

    Alfreton v Walsall (19:45 GMT)

It's the type of night where, with the best will in the world, most observers will be hoping for an upset.

It's a very slippery one for Walsall, who have gone six games without a win in League Two and sit 19th in the table.

They played one of the lowest-ranked sides in the Cup in round one, away at Sheppy United of the Isthmian League South East Division.

Despite conceding the opening goal, Walsall came through the tie to win 4-1.

  11. Who are Alfreton Town?

Alfreton play in National League North, in the sixth tier of English football, and have already come through four rounds to get here.

  12. Wet in the Midlands

    Alfreton v Walsall (19:45 GMT)

The temperatures may have risen a few degrees since Saturday but that still didn't stop this rearranged tie coming under threat again.

Prolonged and heavy rain has replaced frost for the past two days and there were a few worried faces again when a 15:00 GMT pitch inspection was called.

Thankfully the pitch has been deemed playable but don't be surprised to see a little good-to-soft in places.

  13. Good evening

    Alfreton v Walsall (19:45 GMT)

Evening everyone - shall we try this one again?

This was supposed to be have been Saturday's lunchtime's offering but the cold proved too much and the game was postponed just minutes before kick-off.

So we're back three days later to see who can make it through to the third round proper and a tie away at Southampton.

It's Alfreton Town, of the National League North, against League Two Walsall.
