Earps played every minute of England's seven World Cup matches, conceding only four goals and keeping three clean sheets as well as saving a penalty in the final, which England lost 1-0 to Spain.
After tennis player Emma Raducanu's success in 2021 and Beth Mead in 2022, Earps is the third woman to win the Sports Personality of the Year award in a row - the first time that has happened since the 1960s.
"It feels pretty great off the back of a couple of really big years and 2023 has been wild in ways I couldn't expect," Earps said as she collected the award. "I'm really, really grateful."
"I would not be here without my team-mates with the Lionesses and at Manchester United because we've achieved some incredible things over the last couple of years.
"While individual accolades are great, they only come after team success. This is their trophy just as much as mine."
The Fifa Best Women's Goalkeeper, previously part of England's Euro 2022 triumph, was voted England Women's Player of the Year for 2022-23 and finished fifth in the voting for the Ballon d'Or award.

Let's start with the news that England goalkeeper Mary Earps was last night voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2023.
Earps, 30, was the Lionesses' standout player as they reached a first World Cup final in the summer and was rewarded with the Golden Glove for the best goalkeeper at the tournament.
England cricketer Stuart Broad was second, with world heptathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson third.
Earps is the second women's footballer in succession to win the BBC award after Beth Mead triumphed last year for her efforts in helping England lift the Euro 2022 trophy.

The morning after the night before
Still five more sleeps for most of us - but Christmas came early for Mary Earps last night.
The England goalkeeper joined an elite list as she was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year for her heroics in helping the Lionesses reach the Women's World Cup final.
We'll have reaction to that plus all the fallout from last night's Carabao Cup quarter-finals and Manchester City's serene progression to the Club World Cup final in Saudi Arabia.
And we've also got a sprinkling of Premier League news conferences to come this afternoon too - so plenty to keep us talking about as we count down the days until the big man comes down the chimney.
First, let's take a look at what's on the back pages of this morning's newspapers...
