  1. Russia's Nagornyy wins all-around title

    Russia’s Nikita Nagornyy won the men's World Championship all-around title for the first time when he held off his compatriot and reigning title holder Artur Dalaloyan in Stuttgart.

    22-year-old Nagornyy, already the reigning European champion, recorded a score of 88.772 points, ahead of Dalaloyan’s mark of 87.165. Ukraine’s Oleg Verniaiev took the bronze medal with a score of 86.973.

    This was the second gold medal of the week for Nagornyy, who was a member of the Russia squad that won the team competition on Wednesday.

    Great Britain’s Joe Fraser will have been pleased with his 8th-place finish ahead of the weekend's individual finals, while James Hall’s fall from the high bar prevented him finishing higher than 14th overall.

  3. Can Biles become record breaker today?

    Simone Biles extended her record of women's all-around World Gymnastics Championships titles with another convincing gold in Stuttgart on Thursday.

    The 22 year-old's total score of 58.999 gave her gold by a margin of 2.1 marks.

    The success is the American's 16th world title and follows the team gold that USA women won on Tuesday.

    The win was Biles' fifth all-around world title and she is now one medal short of equalling Vitaly Scherbo's all-time record of 23 world medals.

    Biles returns to competition today, where she could claim her 23rd and 24th world medals in the vault and uneven bars apparatus finals.

    Should she do so she would become the most successful gymnast in World Championships history.

    What is Gymnastics?

    Artistic is probably the most well-known form of gymnastics. Women tackle four activities, with men taking on six. These include the vault (run and spring over box), the rings (hoops suspended from the ceiling), the bars (parallel frames to swing between) among others. These activities involve you balancing and performing moves.

    Rhythmic involves performing a routine to music whilst waving a ribbon or balancing a hula-hoop round your hands, feet or neck.

    Acrobatic is the most energetic of all the types of gymnastics. You perform a routine combined of jumps, lifts or lunges, either in pairs or in a group.
