After four minutes of stoppage-time, the final whistle sounds and the Kerry celebrations begin.

Derry did superbly to make it to the showpiece occasion at Croke Park, but were outclassed on the big stage.

"We really put in a performance and the four in a row is massive for the people of Kerry.

"We expected more of a defensive set-up by Derry but maybe it worked better for us that they did not do that."

Derry score a goal through a Paddy Quigg penalty after substitute forward Callum Brown is hauled down by two Kerry defenders.

Kerry aren't taking their foot off the pedal and bag a fourth goal early in the second half through Fiachra Clifford.

Donal O'Sullivan registers for Kerry, and Derry get their first point in 12 minutes through Richie Mullan.

Down go Kerry to the other end for Jack Griffin to send over another point - 12 points in it at half-time.

Could be a long second period for the boys from Derry.

Jack Griffin lands a point and then the hugely impressive David Clifford rattles off three in a row for the boys in green.

Two goals in a minute put Kerry in early command at Croke Park. David Clifford, regarded as a real star of the future, forces his way past several Derry defenders to score and then Fiachra Clifford fires in the Kingdom's third goal.

If Derry recover from this, it really will be a Minor miracle.

Brian Friel points for Kerry but Mark McGrogan lands a couple for Derry and Lorcan Williams also points to reduce the gap to one.

But that response is almost undone when Kerry break through once more - but this time keeper Oran Hartin does well to block Jack Griffin's shot.

It is a disastrous start for Derry as they concede a goal within seconds of the throw-in. Centre half forward David Clifford, identified as the main danger to the Oak Leafers, catches and shoots left-footed into the net.

This will be the last All-Ireland Minor final, as the Under-18 championship is being replaced by an Under-17 competition. The first Minor final was played in 1929, and altogether 18 counties have lifted the Tom Markham Cup, named after a well-known Clare GAA figure.

Derry have won it on four occasions while Kerry, wait for it, have a record 14 Minor All-Irelands to their name.

Padraig McGrogan, the captain of Derry Minors, insists the Ulster boys will not be fazed by the fact they are taking on Kerry who have dominated the Minor scene in recent seasons.

Mark Sidebottom is Radio Ulster's match commentator at Croke Park, and alongside is former Derry star Conleth Gilligan.

The finishing touches have been applied and it will not be long until the action starts on All-Ireland final day.

As far as Ulster involvement is concerned, the focus is on the Minor final as Derry square up to mighty Kerry before the Senior final between Dublin and Mayo.

Kerry have won the Minor title for the last three years but there is a real belief in the Derry camp, particularly after their semi-final win over Dublin three weeks ago.

"We are going there to win the match, but we will need luck on our side," says Oak Leaf Minor boss Damian McErlain. "We will need to show up big time. Anything less than our absolute best will not be enough."

This will be McErlain's last match with the Derry youngsters, as his success at Minor level in recent years has earned him promotion to manager of the county's Senior football team.

He is taking over from Damian Barton and has been awarded a three-year contract.
