Twenty-nine years has been a long time for Hull Kingston Rovers to wait to taste the excitement of a Challenge Cup final, but that is exactly what those players will experience on 29 August.
And the fans too - some 6,500 of them made the trip to rain-soaked Headingley this afternoon - they can begin planning the journey south having seen their fierce rivals Hull FC do just that two years ago.
What will await them is a Leeds side who have been there and done it, and know how to win the big games.
The spirit of 1980 - their only previous success in the competition - will be key, and tapping into the knowledge of former Rovers players will also be crucial.
As for Warrington, they will be heavily involved in the mix for the top four in Super League. Their season is far from over, unlike this text commentary, which is now coming to a close.

If last night's game was an exhibition of ruthless execution from Leeds Rhinos, then this was the ultimate demonstration of character from Hull KR.
Rovers trailed after two minutes and looked like they might buckle under the Warrington onslaught, but responded brilliantly.
Wembley awaits but so does the Super 8s and the Qualifiers - their mettle will continue to be tested between now and 29 August.
As for Warrington, well their defeat means three straight semi-finals defeats - to Hull, Leeds and now Hull KR. They must focus on the Super 8s and a place in the top four.

This year's Challenge Cup final on Saturday, 29 August will be a landmark occasion.
Not only is it the 120th final since the very first in 1896, but it also coincides with the 120th anniversary of the birth of Northern Union and the Rugby Football League.
It was at the George Hotel in Huddersfield on that very day where the breakaway was agreed and it is thanks to that meeting that we have the sport we do now.

I've long been a fan of Kieran Dixon, who has come on leaps and bounds as a footballer at Hull KR.
He had a tough, long-term injury when with London Broncos where he emerged as a pacy winger with an eye for a try.
Now with Rovers, he has developed the defensive side of his game and added a bit of timing, he chimes into the line nicely.
It was a great pass for Josh Mantellato's try.

Having finished outside of Super League's top eight in 2014, Hull Kingston Rovers had to start out in round five and have played one more game in the competition than opponents Warrington.
They started their journey with a potentially tricky tie with Bradford, relegated to the Championship last season but revitalised under Jimmy Lowes.
Chris Chester's side edged a points-heavy thriller, pulling away late on to win 50-30, guided by the finishing of four-try winger Josh Mantellato and skilful playmaker Albert Kelly.
Next up were Wigan, who were edged out on home turf by Rovers 16-12 after Ken Sio made the most of Dan Sarginson's knock-on to score. It was made particularly sweet by the fact the Warriors had thrashed the Robins 60-0 a fortnight earlier.
Travel-sick Catalans went to Craven Park in the quarter-finals, and found Rovers' pacy three-quarter line and the guile of Kelly in the halves too much to handle. Tries from Sio, Kieran Dixon, Kelly and Graeme Horne, plus Mantellato's accurate kicking edged them through to a first semi-final since 2006.

On paper Warrington have had an easier route to the semi-finals than their last-four contemporaries, with Rovers the first Super League side they've met in the competition this year.
It has not all been plain sailing.
The round six trip to Dewsbury was a fairly routine affair, conceding just one try and scoring 10 with doubles for Kevin Penny and Ben Currie in a 52-10 rout at the Tetley's Stadium.
However the visit of Leigh Centurions in the quarter-finals, another classic shown live on the BBC, was anything but routine.
With Paul Rowley's side buoyed by the scalps of Salford and Wakefield, the Championship regular-season title-winners led Tony Smith's Wolves 14-12 at half-time.
Warrington's quality eventually told, but not before further scares in the second half as they moved into the semis with a 34-24 victory.

Warrington have been one of the most consistent performers in the Challenge Cup under Tony Smith, winning three of the last six finals.
They have been involved in five of the last six semi-final stages too, including last season's loss to eventual winners Leeds at St Helens' Langtree Park.
Hull KR's Challenge Cup experiences have been more famine than feast, with their last final four appearance in 2006 as a second-tier outfit ending in a 50-0 drubbing by winners St Helens.
Their last final appearance was in an all-Yorkshire affair with 'classy' Castleford in 1986, when a last-gasp conversion miss by John Lydiat handed the cup to Cas by a solitary point.
By coincidence this year Rovers are commemorating the 35th anniversary of the 1980 all-Hull final, which a Roger Millward-inspired Robins won 10-5 thanks to Steve Hubbard's first-half try.

Warrington have moved Stefan Ratchford to full-back after Matty Russell picked up a potentially season-ending ankle injury against Castleford last time out.
Gary Wheeler is brought into the side in the centres, while Sam Wilde steps off the bench to replace the suspended Ben Westwood in the back-row and Joe Philbin is named among the interchanges.
Hull KR have prolific winger Ken Sio back, he replaces Ben Cockayne on the flank, while key playmaker Albert Kelly comes in for Dane Chisholm in the halves.
Greg Burke is left out, with Kevin Larroyer back - he slots into the back-row.
Another possible omen for those who pander to superstition is that today is Yorkshire Day, which will either bemuse or delight depending on your heritage.
With Leeds already secure of their place at Wembley, could Hull Kingston Rovers also fly the flag like Alistair Brownlee here? (Who is coincidentally a Leeds fan.)
It would mean back-to-back all-Yorkshire finals too, after last season's Castleford-Leeds encounter ended a 28-year wait.
The losers of that last final in 1986? Hull KR at the hands of Cas.

Looking for an omen? Well last night was a so-called 'Blue Moon', where two full moons occur within the same calendar month, and last night also saw Leeds Rhinos in their blue and amber progress to the final at the expense of St Helens.
Whether or not it will bring the primrose and blue of Warrington any luck this afternoon is yet to be seen...

Those words don't even begin to sum up just how good last night's Challenge Cup semi-final between victors Leeds and a gallant St Helens was.
Now as Warrington and Hull KR do battle to join them in next month's final, we get to do it all over again.

Twenty-nine years has been a long time for Hull Kingston Rovers to wait to taste the excitement of a Challenge Cup final, but that is exactly what those players will experience on 29 August.
And the fans too - some 6,500 of them made the trip to rain-soaked Headingley this afternoon - they can begin planning the journey south having seen their fierce rivals Hull FC do just that two years ago.
What will await them is a Leeds side who have been there and done it, and know how to win the big games.
The spirit of 1980 - their only previous success in the competition - will be key, and tapping into the knowledge of former Rovers players will also be crucial.
As for Warrington, they will be heavily involved in the mix for the top four in Super League. Their season is far from over, unlike this text commentary, which is now coming to a close.

If last night's game was an exhibition of ruthless execution from Leeds Rhinos, then this was the ultimate demonstration of character from Hull KR.
Rovers trailed after two minutes and looked like they might buckle under the Warrington onslaught, but responded brilliantly.
Wembley awaits but so does the Super 8s and the Qualifiers - their mettle will continue to be tested between now and 29 August.
As for Warrington, well their defeat means three straight semi-finals defeats - to Hull, Leeds and now Hull KR. They must focus on the Super 8s and a place in the top four.

Well, Warrington trail but remain a huge threat. The front-rowers will be rotated and with Ashton Sims and Chris Hill on the field they have two who will cause problems.
Get that platform again and they will get the ball in good areas,
Rovers meanwhile will be happy with the first 40, they lead and showed character to fight back.

This year's Challenge Cup final on Saturday, 29 August will be a landmark occasion.
Not only is it the 120th final since the very first in 1896, but it also coincides with the 120th anniversary of the birth of Northern Union and the Rugby Football League.
It was at the George Hotel in Huddersfield on that very day where the breakaway was agreed and it is thanks to that meeting that we have the sport we do now.

I've long been a fan of Kieran Dixon, who has come on leaps and bounds as a footballer at Hull KR.
He had a tough, long-term injury when with London Broncos where he emerged as a pacy winger with an eye for a try.
Now with Rovers, he has developed the defensive side of his game and added a bit of timing, he chimes into the line nicely.
It was a great pass for Josh Mantellato's try.

That was a half of two halves to jig the cliche.
Warrington hit the front inside two minutes through Ryan Atkins, who hit a great line to cross but their dominance evaporated as Rovers found confidence and field position.
Josh Mantellato's try punished Wolves' error and Ken Sio pounced on Albert Kelly's kick to turn the game around.
Mantellato's penalty goal ticked the scoreboard on and it is the Robins who bob into the break with their chests puffed out.

Hull KR: The route to the semis
Having finished outside of Super League's top eight in 2014, Hull Kingston Rovers had to start out in round five and have played one more game in the competition than opponents Warrington.
They started their journey with a potentially tricky tie with Bradford, relegated to the Championship last season but revitalised under Jimmy Lowes.
Chris Chester's side edged a points-heavy thriller, pulling away late on to win 50-30, guided by the finishing of four-try winger Josh Mantellato and skilful playmaker Albert Kelly.
Next up were Wigan, who were edged out on home turf by Rovers 16-12 after Ken Sio made the most of Dan Sarginson's knock-on to score. It was made particularly sweet by the fact the Warriors had thrashed the Robins 60-0 a fortnight earlier.
Travel-sick Catalans went to Craven Park in the quarter-finals, and found Rovers' pacy three-quarter line and the guile of Kelly in the halves too much to handle. Tries from Sio, Kieran Dixon, Kelly and Graeme Horne, plus Mantellato's accurate kicking edged them through to a first semi-final since 2006.

On paper Warrington have had an easier route to the semi-finals than their last-four contemporaries, with Rovers the first Super League side they've met in the competition this year.
It has not all been plain sailing.
The round six trip to Dewsbury was a fairly routine affair, conceding just one try and scoring 10 with doubles for Kevin Penny and Ben Currie in a 52-10 rout at the Tetley's Stadium.
However the visit of Leigh Centurions in the quarter-finals, another classic shown live on the BBC, was anything but routine.

Warrington have been one of the most consistent performers in the Challenge Cup under Tony Smith, winning three of the last six finals.
They have been involved in five of the last six semi-final stages too, including last season's loss to eventual winners Leeds at St Helens' Langtree Park.
Hull KR's Challenge Cup experiences have been more famine than feast, with their last final four appearance in 2006 as a second-tier outfit ending in a 50-0 drubbing by winners St Helens.
Their last final appearance was in an all-Yorkshire affair with 'classy' Castleford in 1986, when a last-gasp conversion miss by John Lydiat handed the cup to Cas by a solitary point.
By coincidence this year Rovers are commemorating the 35th anniversary of the 1980 all-Hull final, which a Roger Millward-inspired Robins won 10-5 thanks to Steve Hubbard's first-half try.

Warrington have moved Stefan Ratchford to full-back after Matty Russell picked up a potentially season-ending ankle injury against Castleford last time out.
Gary Wheeler is brought into the side in the centres, while Sam Wilde steps off the bench to replace the suspended Ben Westwood in the back-row and Joe Philbin is named among the interchanges.
Hull KR have prolific winger Ken Sio back, he replaces Ben Cockayne on the flank, while key playmaker Albert Kelly comes in for Dane Chisholm in the halves.
Greg Burke is left out, with Kevin Larroyer back - he slots into the back-row.

With Leeds already secure of their place at Wembley, could Hull Kingston Rovers also fly the flag like Alistair Brownlee here? (Who is coincidentally a Leeds fan.)
It would mean back-to-back all-Yorkshire finals too, after last season's Castleford-Leeds encounter ended a 28-year wait.
