  1. FT: Warrington 18-26 Hull KR

    Kevin Larroyer and Kieran Dixon

Twenty-nine years has been a long time for Hull Kingston Rovers to wait to taste the excitement of a Challenge Cup final, but that is exactly what those players will experience on 29 August.

And the fans too - some 6,500 of them made the trip to rain-soaked Headingley this afternoon - they can begin planning the journey south having seen their fierce rivals Hull FC do just that two years ago.

What will await them is a Leeds side who have been there and done it, and know how to win the big games.

The spirit of 1980 - their only previous success in the competition - will be key, and tapping into the knowledge of former Rovers players will also be crucial.

As for Warrington, they will be heavily involved in the mix for the top four in Super League. Their season is far from over, unlike this text commentary, which is now coming to a close.

Thanks for joining us across the two semi-finals. We will be back for the Wembley final and we hope you can join us then.

I'm off for a lie down, enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  2. FT: Warrington 18-26 Hull KR

Hull KR try-scorer Shaun Lunt: "It's amazing. What a game. They came out like a house on fire but it shows what characters we've got."

  3. FT: Warrington 18-26 Hull KR

    Josh Mantellato

Hull KR winger Josh Mantellato tells BBC Sport: "It means everything. I haven't been a professional for that long and to be going to Wembley is unreal. We're repaying the fans' support - they've been great all season."

  4. FT: Warrington 18-26 Hull KR

If last night's game was an exhibition of ruthless execution from Leeds Rhinos, then this was the ultimate demonstration of character from Hull KR.

Rovers trailed after two minutes and looked like they might buckle under the Warrington onslaught, but responded brilliantly.

Wembley awaits but so does the Super 8s and the Qualifiers - their mettle will continue to be tested between now and 29 August.

As for Warrington, well their defeat means three straight semi-finals defeats - to Hull, Leeds and now Hull KR. They must focus on the Super 8s and a place in the top four.

  5. FT: Warrington 18-26 Hull KR

Hull KR coach Chris Chester tells BBC Sport: "It was a fantastic performance from our guys. We just found a way to win.

"It's not about me - I'm very privileged to coach such a great bunch of players."

Warrington get a penalty but then lose the ball and Hull KR will run down the clock. Their fans are desperate to hear that hooter.

  9. Warrington 18-26 Hull KR

Is this history being made? Hull KR, who haven't played in a Challenge Cup final since 1986, are all but there in 2015.

  10. TRY (Lunt, con Mantellato)

    Warrington 18-26 Hull KR

    Surely that is it?!

Shaun Lunt evades the tacklers to grasp the ball down on the stripe and send Rovers to Wembley.

The video referee gave those Rovers fans jitters but once Josh Mantellato stroked the kick through, the eight-point lead must be enough.

  11. Warrington 18-20 Hull KR

Rovers back-rower Graeme Horne is down getting treatment after he took a stray boot in the face. The clock has been stopped. This is only ramping up the tension right now...

Both sets of fans in full voice.

  12. Warrington 18-20 Hull KR

Neither side can execute their last-tackle plays, as Kieran Dixon showed right in the heart of the Wolves defence. Brad Dwyer spills and Rovers get it back.

Someone needs to show a cool head and settle their team. Who will it be?

  14. Warrington 18-20 Hull KR

A wrestle between Kris Welham and Stefan Ratchford there - the Wolves man gets the ball and they bring it away.

    This is raw drama.

  15. Warrington 18-20 Hull KR

Joe Philbin takes a loose offload and tries to get Warrington away before he's met by Albert Kelly. Then the ball is coughed up by Warrington and Rovers get it back.

  16. Warrington 18-20 Hull KR

    Warrington v Hull KR

I can't choose between these two sides. It looks like Warrington have the rhythm and momentum again now but Hull KR have the lead.

However, the amount of little errors that keep being made by both sides means anyone can strike.

What a nervy finish we have here!

  17. TRY (Currie, con O'Brien)

    Warrington 18-20 Hull KR

Smart move from Warrington to the left and after Richie Myler deliciously delayed the pass, Ben Currie slides over.

Again, the try comes from a Hull KR error. Gareth O'Brien tacks on the extras. It's a two-point game.

  22. Warrington 12-20 Hull KR

Hull KR have a scrum head and feed after an Albert Kelly kick is charged down by Warrington.

A good position to strike, 25 metres out.

  23. Warrington 12-20 Hull KR

Kieran Dixon looks a bit woozy after that, Ashton Sims seemed to tackle him with a bit of head contact.

The full-back's contact lens pops out but it goes back in and we're back under way.

  24. Warrington 12-20 Hull KR

Adam Walker loses the ball in the tackle and Warrington get a scrum.

They push towards half-way but Rovers hold firm and Kieran Dixon returns the ball from the kick with interest.

  25. Warrington 12-20 Hull KR

Albert Kelly down receiving treatment. Hull KR have fingers and everything else crossed that he's okay.

He reminds me so much of Preston Campbell, another Aboriginal playmaker supreme!

  26. NO TRY

    Warrington 12-20 Hull KR

Warrington shift the ball to the right and, after working the overlap, Joel Monaghan dives in at the corner...

  31. TRY (Myler, con O'Brien)

    Warrington 12-20 Hull KR

Richie Myler reaches across the stripe after an evasive run and gets the ball down after Warrington tapped a penalty.

Both sides have ruthlessly punished errors here. Gareth O'Brien kicked the goal to keep up the pressure on Rovers.

  32. Warrington 6-20 Hull KR

Quite literally, the bounce of the ball went Hull KR's way there.

Richie Myler put a kick into the corner on the right and Joel Monaghan could not reach it before it bounced agonisingly into touch.

Warrington have also lost Gene Ormsby to injury and he is out with a fractured jaw.

Knock-on by Dane Tilse gives Warrington a scrum in Rovers' territory.

  33. Warrington 6-20 Hull KR

Warrington are committing numbers to the tackle but they are struggling to stop the momentum and when Albert Kelly can tickle the ball downfield like that, Rovers will restrict them.

  34. Warrington 6-20 Hull KR

    Ken Sio

After a slow start, Hull KR are now 14 points clear. That quick-fire brace of tries, the second by Ken Sio (pictured), could prove the critical period of this semi-final.

  35. PENALTY (Mantellato)

    Warrington 6-20 Hull KR

Josh Mantellato makes no mistake, the gap extends to 14 points.

  36. Warrington 6-18 Hull KR

Another knock-on by Warrington gives Hull KR scrum head and feed just inside the Wolves half.

They are on a roll and get a repeat set for a Warrington infringement... Josh Mantellato elects to kick from the tee.

  37. Warrington 6-18 Hull KR

Warrington Wolves head coach Tony Smith

    Who could have predicted this?

Well, Rovers fans who saw their team dismantle Warrington in Super League might have done...

  39. TRY (Larroyer, con Mantellato)

    Warrington 6-18 Hull KR

Rovers have scored here through French back-rower Kevin Larroyer, who bashes his way across under huge pressure.

On-field official Richard Silverwood took the score upstairs to the video referee, who deemed the try had been scored within the laws.

Josh Mantellato drills the kick between the uprights. A two-score lead for Hull KR!

  40. Warrington 6-12 Hull KR

Big chance from the scrum for Rovers.

  41. Warrington 6-12 Hull KR

Albert Kelly has been sharp to everything loose at the back, Warrington put him under pressure with a delicate kick but he was equal to it.

Not seen much of Warrington's Ben Currie, other than a couple of efforts on the left edge early in the first half.

Rovers press inside Warrington territory and the kick is good enough to a scrum head and feed the Robins 10 out.

  42. Warrington 6-12 Hull KR

Warrington made good inroads into the Rovers' half but the final play is lacking. A forward pass gives them another chance to attack.

  43. Warrington 6-12 Hull KR

Hull KR's Chris Chester will be the happier of the two coaches at the start of this second half - will he be leading his side out against Leeds at Wembley on 29 August?

We are back on for the second half and Warrington get first feel of the ball.

  47. HT: Warrington 6-12 Hull KR

Where do we stand at half-way?

Well, Warrington trail but remain a huge threat. The front-rowers will be rotated and with Ashton Sims and Chris Hill on the field they have two who will cause problems.

Get that platform again and they will get the ball in good areas,

Rovers meanwhile will be happy with the first 40, they lead and showed character to fight back.

  48. HT: Warrington 6-12 Hull KR

This year's Challenge Cup final on Saturday, 29 August will be a landmark occasion.

Not only is it the 120th final since the very first in 1896, but it also coincides with the 120th anniversary of the birth of Northern Union and the Rugby Football League.

It was at the George Hotel in Huddersfield on that very day where the breakaway was agreed and it is thanks to that meeting that we have the sport we do now.

  49. HT: Warrington 6-12 Hull KR

    Kieran Dixon

I've long been a fan of Kieran Dixon, who has come on leaps and bounds as a footballer at Hull KR.

He had a tough, long-term injury when with London Broncos where he emerged as a pacy winger with an eye for a try.

Now with Rovers, he has developed the defensive side of his game and added a bit of timing, he chimes into the line nicely.

It was a great pass for Josh Mantellato's try.

  50. HT: Warrington 6-12 Hull KR

    Josh Mantellato

Warrington prop Ashton Sims: "They started winning the ruck a little bit there and that's what we've to get back. It's tough to lose Ben Harrison but we've got great resolve in this team."

  54. Half-time

    Warrington 6-12 Hull KR

That was a half of two halves to jig the cliche.

Warrington hit the front inside two minutes through Ryan Atkins, who hit a great line to cross but their dominance evaporated as Rovers found confidence and field position.

    Ryan Atkins celebrates

Josh Mantellato's try punished Wolves' error and Ken Sio pounced on Albert Kelly's kick to turn the game around.

Mantellato's penalty goal ticked the scoreboard on and it is the Robins who bob into the break with their chests puffed out.

  61. Warrington 6-10 Hull KR

Both teams have traded sets and last-tackle kicks, but Rovers have a penalty that takes them into Warrington territory.

  62. Warrington 6-10 Hull KR

A lead is never safe in this great sport and the minute you get a roll on with a try and another feel for the ball you can put on quick tries like that.

Big Dane Tilse and James Green are finding their feet up front for Rovers and a lovely Albert Kelly kick to touch puts Warrington back in their own half from the scrum.

    Warrington 6-4 Hull KR

    Josh Mantellato

Hull KR have barely had a sniff of the Warrington goal-line, but with one slick move involving Albert Kelly, Maurice Blair and Kieran Dixon to the left, big Australian winger Josh Mantellato dives in spectacularly to score.

It's all about field position and, when they finally had it, Rovers capitalised.

Mantellato steps up to add the extras, but his effort strikes the upright and bounces out.

  71. Warrington 6-0 Hull KR

Starting to get a bit sloppy here, this game. Both teams are making handling errors and giving away cheap possession.

Both teams have a good offload game but there's a time and a place for it!

  72. Warrington 6-0 Hull KR

Warrington are pressing Hull KR back with every set, and not conceding too much ground in defence.

Kieran Dixon looks lively from dummy-half and gets Rovers into a good position for the kick, that Josh Mantellato almost takes in.

However, they're offside and give good ball straight back to Warrington.

Hull KR: The route to the semis

    Josh Mantellato

Having finished outside of Super League's top eight in 2014, Hull Kingston Rovers had to start out in round five and have played one more game in the competition than opponents Warrington.

They started their journey with a potentially tricky tie with Bradford, relegated to the Championship last season but revitalised under Jimmy Lowes.

Chris Chester's side edged a points-heavy thriller, pulling away late on to win 50-30, guided by the finishing of four-try winger Josh Mantellato and skilful playmaker Albert Kelly.

Next up were Wigan, who were edged out on home turf by Rovers 16-12 after Ken Sio made the most of Dan Sarginson's knock-on to score. It was made particularly sweet by the fact the Warriors had thrashed the Robins 60-0 a fortnight earlier.

Travel-sick Catalans went to Craven Park in the quarter-finals, and found Rovers' pacy three-quarter line and the guile of Kelly in the halves too much to handle. Tries from Sio, Kieran Dixon, Kelly and Graeme Horne, plus Mantellato's accurate kicking edged them through to a first semi-final since 2006.

  91. Challenge Cup semi-final

Warrington: The route to the semis

Ashton Sims try against Leigh is celebrated by the Warrington players

On paper Warrington have had an easier route to the semi-finals than their last-four contemporaries, with Rovers the first Super League side they've met in the competition this year.

It has not all been plain sailing.

The round six trip to Dewsbury was a fairly routine affair, conceding just one try and scoring 10 with doubles for Kevin Penny and Ben Currie in a 52-10 rout at the Tetley's Stadium.

However the visit of Leigh Centurions in the quarter-finals, another classic shown live on the BBC, was anything but routine.

With Paul Rowley's side buoyed by the scalps of Salford and Wakefield, the Championship regular-season title-winners led Tony Smith's Wolves 14-12 at half-time.

Warrington's quality eventually told, but not before further scares in the second half as they moved into the semis with a 34-24 victory.

  92. Views from the dressing room

Hull KR coach Chris Chester: "It's a great occasion today. The fans have come out in their thousands. They've been fantastic all season and it's about time we gave them something back."

Warrington coach Tony Smith: "We've trained really well and a fair amount of preparation has gone into this one. The whole competition gets us going. We've got a good recent history with it and we want to expand on that."

  95. Challenge Cup semi-final

    Warrington v Hull KR

Tony Smith and Adrian Morley hold the Challenge Cup aloft.

Warrington have been one of the most consistent performers in the Challenge Cup under Tony Smith, winning three of the last six finals.

They have been involved in five of the last six semi-final stages too, including last season's loss to eventual winners Leeds at St Helens' Langtree Park.

Hull KR's Challenge Cup experiences have been more famine than feast, with their last final four appearance in 2006 as a second-tier outfit ending in a 50-0 drubbing by winners St Helens.

Their last final appearance was in an all-Yorkshire affair with 'classy' Castleford in 1986, when a last-gasp conversion miss by John Lydiat handed the cup to Cas by a solitary point.

By coincidence this year Rovers are commemorating the 35th anniversary of the 1980 all-Hull final, which a Roger Millward-inspired Robins won 10-5 thanks to Steve Hubbard's first-half try.

    Stefan Ratchford

Warrington have moved Stefan Ratchford to full-back after Matty Russell picked up a potentially season-ending ankle injury against Castleford last time out.

Gary Wheeler is brought into the side in the centres, while Sam Wilde steps off the bench to replace the suspended Ben Westwood in the back-row and Joe Philbin is named among the interchanges.

Hull KR have prolific winger Ken Sio back, he replaces Ben Cockayne on the flank, while key playmaker Albert Kelly comes in for Dane Chisholm in the halves.

Greg Burke is left out, with Kevin Larroyer back - he slots into the back-row.

Triathlon champion Alistair Brownlee holds a Yorkshire flag aloft

Another possible omen for those who pander to superstition is that today is Yorkshire Day, which will either bemuse or delight depending on your heritage.

With Leeds already secure of their place at Wembley, could Hull Kingston Rovers also fly the flag like Alistair Brownlee here? (Who is coincidentally a Leeds fan.)

It would mean back-to-back all-Yorkshire finals too, after last season's Castleford-Leeds encounter ended a 28-year wait.

The losers of that last final in 1986? Hull KR at the hands of Cas.

    Warrington v Hull KR

Quote Message: Hull KR are craving success. The city, and that side in particular, needs it. They face a really tough task in beating this Warrington side today. Warrington are very strong through the middle of the field, although they are missing a talisman in Ben Westwood. from Jon Wilkin St Helens captain on BBC One

The 'blue moon' from the night of 31 July/1 August

Looking for an omen? Well last night was a so-called 'Blue Moon', where two full moons occur within the same calendar month, and last night also saw Leeds Rhinos in their blue and amber progress to the final at the expense of St Helens.

Whether or not it will bring the primrose and blue of Warrington any luck this afternoon is yet to be seen...

If you're watching the BBC One coverage, you'll have seen a lovely montage of Hull KR's 1980 win against rivals Hull FC.

I interviewed Allan Agar a few years ago for a piece about Featherstone, but he was equally as happy to talk about Rovers.

St Helens' Luke Walsh tackles Joel Moon of Leeds

    End-to-end, frantic, frenetic and furious.

Those words don't even begin to sum up just how good last night's Challenge Cup semi-final between victors Leeds and a gallant St Helens was.

Now as Warrington and Hull KR do battle to join them in next month's final, we get to do it all over again.

Welcome to BBC Sport's television, radio and text coverage of the second semi-final.
