'When I first came on tour I was a child'

More from Andy Murray: "There's more demands on your time away from the court, but you get to play in front of packed stadiums. In all sports it's a benefit to play at home. There's pressure, but it's great.

"When I first came on tour I was a child - in my behaviour as well as my physique. But I've tried to work hard and hopefully I can keep getting better."

'I've had good runs here'

And Murray tells BBC Sport: "It was nice. It's always a pleasure to come back here. I'm glad I managed to get the win. I felt like I moved pretty well. I felt I didn't start serving so well. But I felt I hit the ball well from the back of the court.

"I've had good runs here. It's an extremely strong field this year so I'll have to play great tennis."

Murray is mobbed by spectators of all ages to get their goodies signed. Murray, who appears to be a very nice chap it must be said, scribbles on everything.

"I'm not happy I lost a match that I had a chance to win, but that's it. That's tennis on grass."

And what a match point it is, clipping a lob into acres of space behind Lu.

Murray puffs out the cheeks, and so he should do. That wasn't clean cut. But hey, he's through and he's one from one on grass this summer. Onwards and upwards.

Lu, needing to hold, goes long. He levels with a sharp volley at the net. Murray puts a simple backhand slice into the net.

Lu goes long again - twice. Match point.

Murray almost has to dig a hole to get down to a low one, but he whips it over the net tremendously. It sets him on his way to a clean sweep. Now, can he find the break for the match? Timing is everything.

We get the biggest ripple of noise today from the Queen's contingent, who know Murray can sew the match up now.

He wins the first point, loses the second and then shouts at himself. Standard fare from the Scot.

Now a bigger scream as he miscues a forehand. Lu goes long though and we hear "come on Andy!" from the crowd.

Now the umpire is getting in on the act - trying to nonchalantly catch the ball, but failing. Lu succeeds though and tidies up the game quickly.

One thing looks for sure, Murray is not in the mood for dropping any more service games*. That's a bish, bash, bosh game from the Scot, four serves, four points.

*Murray will inevitably be broken in his next service game.

I'm sure Lu just let out a "woo hoo" when the ball dropped Murray's side of the net just now. You don't hear enough "woo hoo-ing" these days.

He should be happy though, as he knocks a forehand right into the corner and Murray can only flop it into the net to relinquish the game.

It's just a procession of service points at the moment. Murray sends an ace down the middle to win the game - it almost removes the head of a line judge.

Talking of straightforward. Lu holds clean as a whistle. A few more shouts of "come on Murray". He's trying.

Lu is getting louder and louder on his shots the further we go. The Taiwanese makes a two-syllable noise akin to an old steam train as he stretches for points.

It's not helping. Murray has his most straightforward game for a while, dropping just the one point.

Murray breaks back in second set

Murray smells a break. He wrong foots Lu with a forehand to the backhand side to go to 30-30 and then the Taiwanese has an untimely double fault.

Lu gets fortunate though. Serve, volley, top of the net, point. He clips the tape again, but this time it drops his side. Advantage Murray.

And game to Murray, with a searching backhand that Lu can't get back.

Jose serves up a new striker

The BBC's sports editor Dan Roan is reporting that Chelsea are on the verge of agreeing a one-season loan deal for Radamel Falcao from Monaco.

Now that's why Jose had the phone in his hand earlier...

Murray needed a quick game. He almost got it, three serves put him 40-0 up. But once again he becomes loose and Lu is back at deuce. No bother though, as Lu goes long and wide and Murray holds.

You always worry about Murray when he starts shouting at himself, other people and inanimate objects.

We're getting a bit of that now as he shrieks to his box. We also hear the first "come on Andy" from the crowd. That man will no doubt have his glass of Cava removed for being unruly.

Better from Murray though, as he scampers everywhere to finally hit a casual slice backhand.

Lu is unhindered though, and hits a second serve right down the middle for the game.

I was about to say Lu looks a little lethargic now, shoulders a bit more slumped. But then Murray goes from 40-0 to deuce, through a combination of unforced areas and some firecracker Lu forehands.

It's all bit quiet at Queen's, but then again it usually it is.

Now there's noise as Murray hisses at himself for hitting into the net. Lu also looks perplexed after putting a break point long.

Murray finds the net again and he is furious. He'll be even angrier, as Lu breaks after being three points down.

Murray has a chance to finish this set off. Lu hits a couple short and then one clips the net, so Murray despatches it. But the Scot fails with a return for 30-30.

Lots of heavy exhaling on the next point - and you can't blame them as it goes on a bit. Murray wins it, set point... Long from Lu.

So after going a break down, and without really being explosive, Murray has casually turned it around to take the set.

Lu forces Murray to get defensive, and the Taiwanese is good enough to capitalise. Murray reacts by having a stroll to the net and landing an acrobatic volleyed winner.

"Make one of them," Murray says to himself after fluffing a few first serves.

He responds by sending down an ace for the game.

"Amelie Mauresmo will be at Wimbledon this year, alongside Andy's other coaches. She's expecting a child in August but has had the all-clear from her doctor to travel."

We're getting a few close-ups of Andy Murray's wedding ring. It's not on his finger, it's on his shoelace. As long as you have it on you at all times, you're not breaking the rules, right?

Meanwhile, Murray is moving around nicely, but can't get one out of his feet and Lu goes 40-15 up. The pair then get embroiled in a nice rally, which Murray makes the most of, only for Lu to nick the game with his serve.

Murray thinks he's got it easier this time, racing to 40-15. But he's caught off guard by a tasty Lu cross-court backhand. Lu steps off the baseline and hits straight into the net though, to give Murray the game.

So much variety from Lu. He's back volleying again and to good effect for the first point.

Murray wins a pummelling baseline battle and then strikes a passing backhand for two break points.

Now one break point - Lu snaffles an overhead volley. But he puts a cross-court effort wide and Murray is back on level terms.

Murray quickly finds himself 0-30 down, and it could be worse, but Lu squanders an appealing looking forehand opportunity.

Hmmm. A double fault from the Scot and two break points to save. The first is deal with with a text book driving forehand.

But Lu musters a terrific shot down the line to steal an early break.

Murray is already having a little chat with himself in the chair.

Another Brit bites the dust at the Aegeon Classic in Birmingham. After Heather Watson's demise earlier, Naomi Broady was hammered 6-4 6-2 against top seed Simona Halep.

Lu has gone for a more salmon affair in terms of his get up. It's fetching.

So is that opening point, which Lu secures with a tidy backhand. In fact, it's a really comfortable game for the Taiwanese, who looks happy to come to the net. And he seals the game with an inch-perfect slice which is just inside the line.

Murray is definitely in a Wimbledon kind of mood, decked in all white. Including a white cap.

Jose Mourinho may have nipped out to do some transfer deals - he's waiting for the change of ends to return to his seat, mobile phone dangling in his right hand.

Murray meanwhile does just enough to notch up his second game, no fireworks though.

Lu showing us he's not here to make up the numbers. A forehand from deep behind the baseline is too good for Murray.

Now he's into the net and dictating the pace, finishing with a controlled volley. A couple of long ones have given Murray a sniff, but a decent serve sees the Taiwanese through.

Who is Yen-Hsun Lu?

Yen-Hsun Lu, the Taiwanese 31-year-old, is ranked 65th in the world, and is a qualifier here at Queen's, but he's no pushover.

Supposedly more comfortable on the hard surfaces, he reached the quarter-finals on the grass of Wimbledon in 2010 and peaked at 33rd in the world that year.

Possibly the most important thing to know about the right-hander is he gave himself the nickname Rendy as a kid, to help out his English teacher.

Also, with a surname just two characters long, he is the friend of live text commentators everywhere.

We've barely had time to recover from galloping Dolgopolov before Andy Murray's under way.

Murray serves first, and it's not straightforward. He fails to pick one off his toes on the baseline to make it nervy at 40-30, but Lu hits a wayward return.

"There was always a chance we would see a shock today and Murray will be hoping that Nadal remains the headline story at the end of the day. The Briton has previous against Lu, having been beaten by the Taiwanese at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Murray has also made a couple of early exits at Queen's Club, including a third-round loss last year, but if the pattern continues he's due to win the tournament again this year."

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, watching at Queen's, has just spoken to BBC Sport.

It turns out he has a tennis court in his house in Portugal, which isn't too surprising. He's also bezzies with Rafa Nadal.

"I'm Rafa's friend so I have to say I'm not happy with the match. But I'm happy with the Rafa I saw."

'I like to frustrate'

Alexandr Dolgopolov, speaking to BBC Sport: "It's as good as I've played on grass. I had a good time last season so I was prepared for the match. I like to frustrate my opponents, make it uncomfortable for them."

Nadal signs a few autographs, a few, not loads, before trudging off.

Dolgopolov is still out there, lapping it up, signing everything that moves. Programmes, fluffy balls, babies.

Dolgopolov can't believe his eyes as the court opens up for him and it's a simple winner down the channel.

Remember, Golpolov is ranked 63rd in the world. Nadal is 10th - but we know he's better than that.

Although a shot from the Ukrainian, an angled drop shot right across the face of the net, makes him look like a top-five player.

He's 15-30 as Nadal slices into the net. Now Dolgopov finds the net - he looked tense on that one.

Oh, forget that. A stonking service return for match point...

Amid that break back from Dolgopolov, there was a time warning for Nadal. He did not seemed ruffled by it - in fact he looked positively nonplussed.

Dolgopolov, after all that good work, double faults to give Nadal two break points. The Ukrainian saves the first with a forehand into a wide open court, and then Nadal fires a forehand into the net.

A curious shot, with Nadal at the net, gives the Spaniard advantage. But an ace and a Nadal shot into the net and then a long lob see the Ukrainian survive.

Dolgopolov breaks back

Dolgopolov is an absolute lucky dip of shot making. A perfect drop shot has Nadal on his bike, and the Spaniard can only pop it wide.

But Rafa is looking mobile though, he's back at the net, volleying for 30-15.

But here comes Dolgopolov, creating a break point by putting away a smash after forcing Nadal into the corner. And now a second bite at a break point... charging towards the net, volley. He's got it.

Dolgopolov may have tweaked an ankle chasing one of those rasping forehands from Nadal.

But his service arm is working fine. He wins the game when a second serve kicks up, puts him in control, and finishes when Rafa puts into the net.

"Dolgopolov has a problem now but tennis is a problem-solving sport, and if you don't solve the problem you lose... simple as that. That's what I love about the game."

That slingshot of a left hand from Nadal is tantalising at times. Dolgopovic is forced to watch one go in the corner.

We have a little battle of sliced backhands and Rafa gambles, drives, scores. He sees out the game with a big serve.

Dolgopolov has a few serves up his sleeve though and races to 40-0 up. Nadal stems the tide with a tricky return. The Ukrainian goes back to the serve though - 15 aces now.

A few of you may have noticed that I may have said Federer won the second set. He didn't, obviously. Although I like to believe that Roger Federer is always winning a second set somewhere.

Nadal's looking to get this over and done with now. Dolgopolov has words with himself during a straightforward game for the Spaniard.

Break point. Dolgopolov's forehand is called out... it's challenged... it's out. Nadal is a break up for the first time today.

Oh hello, flicked backhand drop shot across court from the Ukrainian to go to 30-30. It's lovely, but it's to no avail as Nadal serves out.

Heart in the mouth moment has Nadal takes a tumble. Fully on to his backside - but he's OK. He lost the point though.

And now he's lost the game, Dolgopolov finishing off with an ace - that's his 13th ace now.

That's why he's a champion. Nadal, facing a match point just five minutes ago, is favourite to win this now.

He's a little bit lighter now as well, having just nipped off for a loo break. He comes bouncing back on to court, red bandanna boinging up and down. Here comes the deciding set.

And this is wonderful. Rafa is sent all over the court, left, then to the net and the Spaniard is eventually undone by a lob. Another ace? Sure, why not. Tie-break.

However, it seems if they don't compete their ranking won't improve? How do they manage it?

Bad news for fans of Heather Watson... she's crashed out of the Aegon Classic in Birmingham following a straight-sets defeat to Serbia's Aleksandra Krunic, 7-6 (7-5) 6-4.

For the first time this set - I think - a player is behind on serve. Dolgopolov looks a little loose as Nadal goes 15-30.

The Ukrainian pulls out a brace of big serves before slicing a one-handed backhand into the net for deuce.

Bang. A slicing forehand that arches away from Dolgopolov is too good for Nadal, and then the umpire makes a correct overrule to award Dolgopolov an ace and the game.

Dolgopolov tries too hard to find the corner, and it drifts wide to give Nadal a 30-0 advantage.

The Ukrainian is only 5'11'', but looks about 6'8'' with his wiry frame. He uses all of it to hit a stretching backhand winner. And then relinquishes the game with a loose return.

At 15-15 Dolgopolov sends a perfect forehand down the line - it barely left its course. And then a forehand with lashings of top spin is too much for Rafa. The Ukrainian finds the net to make it 40-30, but it's no bother, as he fires down a fizzing, winning serve out wide.

Football royalty in the crowd here. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been spotted, looking miserable and horribly, horribly lonely.

If you're there, go give him a hug. I reckon Jose loves hugs.

Neither man looking too troubled on their serve now. Nadal puts down four bombs and gets nothing back in reply. Simple.

Dolgopolov, 15-0 up, challenges an out call on his second serve - he's wrong, the judge is right. So he responds by smashing down an ace with disdain to go 30-15 up.

Nadal fights back though, or more to the point Dolgopolov is wayward and finds himself at deuce. But Rafa fires a backhand into the net and can only wave a racquet at a crunching serve.

We get a snippy little rally at 15-0, which Nadal wins. The Spaniard is finding his rhythm now.

Dolgopolov returns into the net and and there's an ace from Rafa. It's a clean sweep and Nadal may be shrugging off that first-set setback.

Dolgopolov marches to a 40-0 lead, but a swiping forehand return puts Nadal back in it.

All that excitement about Nadal maybe having a wobble, he's made mince meat of that service game.

The Spaniard rattled through to take it 40-0 - including a superb, stretching forehand right down the line.

The second set is not the traditional place to join a tennis match, but Rafael Nadal is in a bit of a pickle at Queen's.

He's a set down to Ukranian Alexandr Dolgopolov... we pick it up in the first game of the second set, Nadal on serve.
