  1. Goodbye

So, with the win secured for Great Britain, we're going to wrap up the live text here. But they are going to play the fifth rubber between Dan Evans and Thanasi Kokkinakis, so if you fancy watching that, you can stay with the live TV coverage on this page.

Alternatively, if you want to relive Andy Murray's superb victory, Piers Newbery's report is here and the video highlights are here.

We will of course be back in November to bring you live text and TV coverage of Great Britain in the Davis Cup final. Britain in the Davis Cup final. Just let that sink in. Until then, goodbye.

  2. Belgium v Argentina latest

So as we've mentioned, the result of the other semi-final - and hence the location of the final - rests on the result of the fifth rubber between Belgium's Steve Darcis and Argentina's Federico Delbonis.

If Delbonis wins, the final will be in the UK. But he has only ever won six matches on a hard court in his entire career.

However, Darcis has been on court for seven hours and 52 minutes over the first two days of that tie. And there is only one ranking place between the two men.

  3. Post update

    Jamie Baker

Former British Davis Cup player on BBC Two

"If the final is on clay in Belgium, Kyle Edmund is arguably the best of the number twos on that surface. But would you put him in for his first live Davis Cup rubber in a final?"

  4. Post update

    John Lloyd

Former British number one on BBC Two

"If you've got Andy you can almost put him as a banker for two singles matches and we've got world-class doubles too."

  5. Player reaction

James Ward, asked if he'll be in the team for the final: "Hopefully, I've got to go away and make myself the obvious choice. It's been a stressful few days so it'll be nice to get home and have a few days off."

  6. Post update

    Sue Barker

    BBC tennis presenter

"And we should say thank you to Judy Murray too. What would we do without her two sons?"

  7. Player reaction

    Great Britain celebrate win

More from Andy Murray: "Obviously winning for your country and your team-mates means a lot. The crowd were unbelievable from the first ball to the last. I didn't feel great the whole weekend to be honest, I've been struggling with my back, but I just tried to disguise it. We've got everyone here, mother, father, wife, grandmother, mother-in-law, aunties and uncles."

  8. Player reaction

Dan Evans: "I'd be at home watching if I hadn't been a part of this tie. I'll probably never get to experience something like this again, it's been so good coming in, the boys have made me feel really welcome."

  9. Post update

    John Lloyd

Former British number one on BBC Two

"I really hope Argentina win the other semi-final because it would be so special to have the final at home in Britain."

  10. Post update

    Jamie Baker

Former British Davis Cup player on BBC Two

"Andy has given so much because of the people in the team. It takes so much effort to do this that he wouldn't be here if he didn't enjoy it."

  11. Player reaction

Andy Murray on celebrating tonight: "I'm not sure what we'll do, the tennis season doesn't stop and some of the guys will be playing soon. But it's been a great weekend and we'll enjoy it."

  12. Player reaction

Andy Murray: "Obviously I'm delighted to get through, we knew this would be difficult, Australia have so much depth and experience but we fought extremely hard all weekend.

"It would be an incredible achievement but there's a long way to go.

Asked who he would prefer in the final, Argentina or Belgium: "Argentina would be a tough match, it would obviously be good if they could get through and we can play in the UK."

  13. Post update

    John Lloyd

Former British number one on BBC Two

    Bernard Tomic leaves the court

"Tomic is a world-class player but Murray made him look average. He took his legs away from him, got so many balls back and exhausted him. There was nothing Tomic could do."

Patrick Jack: Glorious, Andy. The Murrays take on the world once again and win! Another top Davis Cup weekend - bring on the final!

Maddy Raman: Phenomenal effort from a phenomenal athlete, @andy_murray takes Great Britain into the Davis Cup final. Surreal.

  15. Coach reaction

    Murray

GB Davis Cup captain Leon Smith on BBC Two: "He's quite good isn't he? It's pretty amazing watching Andy's work over the whole weekend, he fights so hard and he's got the quality. He executed it perfectly today.

"So many people have played their part, and the crowd were absolutely brilliant. Everyone's played a huge part, even the people who don't get a huge amount of mentions. It would be nice to be at home for the final and we'll fight like hell when it comes."

Jack Blackburn: Unbelievable. Britain are into the #DavisCup final. Something I honestly thought I'd never see. Get in boys.

  17. Post update

Murray throws his sweatbands into an adoring crowd. What a noise in Glasgow. Bernard Tomic played pretty well, but he just could not live with Andy Murray today. On the GB bench, Jamie Murray clenches his fist - he'll have a big part to play in the final.

  18. Post update

    Andrew Castle

    BBC tennis commentator

"That'll do it! GB are in the Davis Cup final. A monumental effort in front of home fans for Andy Murray again. Of course it's a team effort and he's quick to salute his team."

  22. Post update

    Piers Newbery

    BBC Sport in Glasgow

"'We love you Bernie, we do....!' Full marks to the Aussie Fanatics, hugely outnumbered and on the backfoot for much of the weekend, they are still up on their feet every time Tomic gives them something to cheer.

"If and when Nick Kyrgios returns to the fold, they are likely to have a lot more cracks at this over the next few years. The same probably can't be said for Britain, with Murray likely to step away from Davis Cup duties at least in next year's early rounds. Enjoy him while you can."

  23. Post update

    Andrew Castle

    BBC tennis commentator

"Oh boy! This man has wheels and he's got guts and he's got determination. He's covering the miles out there and is on the verge of making history."

  24. Murray breaks

    *Murray 7-5 6-3 5-2 Tomic

    Andy Murray in action

Murray forces another backhand error to bring up his third break point. It looks like Tomic has saved this one to, but Murray somehow reels in a smash and sends a perfect defensive lob right onto the baseline. From there, the end feels inevitable for Tomic, as indeed the result of this match now does. Murray to serve to take Britain into a first Davis Cup final in 39 years.

  25. Post update

    *Murray 7-5 6-3 4-2 Tomic

Tomic, to his credit, isn't simply lying down and letting Andy Murray reverse over him - he lets everyone know that he's still in this match by absolutely flattening a supersonic forehand into the corner. But from 40-15, two poor backhands allow Andy Murray back into the game. Deuce. Another error on the Tomic backhand, this time a misjudged slice that floats into the tramlines, gives Murray break point, but he he puts a forehand into the net. A cross-court backhand winner gives Murray another chance, but Tomic resists again with a big forehand. On we go...

  26. Get involved via #bbctennis

David Bonthrone: Tomic now doing his bit for charity and letting @andy_murray rack up the aces #dominant #50quidperace

Mike Morris: The mental and physical stamina that Andy Murray possesses is astonishing. Best British sportsman ever...?

  27. Post update

    Murray 7-5 6-3 4-2 Tomic*

Great Britain Captain Leon Smith celebrates

More virtuoso stuff from Murray - winding up for the big forehand and then cheekily chopping a cute drop shot just over the net. And then another one, this one caressed off the backhand wing and landing soft as a feather in Tomic's service box. Murray making history-making look easy.

  28. Post update

    John Lloyd

Former British number one on BBC Two

    Bernard Tomic looks dejected

"For Tomic, perhaps now's the time to go for everything, take the chance. But it's not really the way he plays, that's the problem. This match is only going one way - and quickly too."

  29. Post update

    *Murray 7-5 6-3 3-2 Tomic

A superb game by Tomic under the circumstances - some big serves and a backhand up-the-line give him a hold to love and keep him in touch. He's not quite out of it yet. But does he believe?

  30. Post update

Meanwhile, Roger Federer has guided 2014 winners Switzerland to victory in their Davis Cup World Group play-off tie against the Netherlands with an easy 6-3 6-2 6-4 victory over Thiemo de Bakker.

  31. Post update

    John Lloyd

Former British number one on BBC Two

    "It's just a terrible match-up for Tomic. He's a counter-puncher, Murray's a human backboard. He just can't get any cheap points."

  32. Post update

    Murray 7-5 6-3 3-1 Tomic*

This has turned into a serving masterclass from Andy Murray. He wangs down two more aces against an increasingly demoralised Tomic. Nearly there.

  33. Post update

    Andrew Castle

    BBC tennis commentator

    Andy Murray in action

"Murray's absolutely going to work here, there's something so solid about his game in these sort of situations… he's just so rugged, so tough."

  34. Murray breaks

    *Murray 7-5 6-3 2-1 Tomic

Murray gets Tomic on the run and a forehand into the tape brings up 0-30. The Aussie cracks under the pressure, trying a kamikaze backhand drive volley to concede three break points, and then nets a backhand. Britain on the brink.

  35. Belgium v Argentina latest

    Goffin

Belgium's David Goffin is also in total control of his singles match in the other semi-final. He leads Argentina's Diego Schwartzman 6-3 6-2 and is one set away from levelling the tie at 2-2.

The fifth and final rubber would be between Steve Darcis and Federico Delbonis. That's a battle of the world's number 64 against the world's number 65.

  36. Post update

    Murray 7-5 6-3 1-1 Tomic*

Murray clatters the central line judge's chair with yet another ace. His placement is just too good at the moment - Tomic is finding these serves harder to get hold of than a runaway wallaby. The Scot is up and running in set three.

  37. Post update

    *Murray 7-5 6-3 0-1 Tomic

    Bernard Tomic reacts

Can Tomic stop this runaway train before it pulls in at a little station called History? It's going to have to be a superhuman effort to win three sets in a row from here. But he starts well enough, holding his serve to 15.

  38. Player reaction

    Andy Murray rests between sets

Jamie Murray on BBC Two: "Andy seems in total control. It seems he has broken Tomic's spirit a bit. If he can keep up the intensity of his serve he'll get some easy points, and hopefully he can finish off this match."

  39. Murray wins second set

    Murray 7-5 6-3 Tomic*

    Andy Murray celebrates

Tomic broke at this stage in the first set, but Murray doesn't give him a sniff this time. Two big serves, the Aussie duffs a drop shot and it's three set points. Tomic blazes a backhand wide, and Britain are one set away from a first final since 1978. History beckons.

  40. The best of the first set

Just joining us? Where have you been? If you want to catch up with the key moments of the first set in a minute, here's our highlights to watch (for folk in the UK only I'm afraid).

  41. Post update

    *Murray 7-5 5-3 Tomic

    Andy Murray eyes his shot

Tomic is a sitting duck when he ambles into net and Murray is a practiced sharp-shooter. He whips a forehand pass past the big Aussie and then blisters another winner past him off the opposite wing. That takes him to 15-30, but Tomic scraps well to hang on. Now can Murray serve it out?

  42. Post update

    Murray 7-5 5-2 Tomic*

Tomic can't make any impression on the Murray serve at the moment - the Scot is switching up his delivery well and keeping Tomic guessing. He holds to 15, and he's a game away from the second set.

  43. Post update

    *Murray 7-5 4-2 Tomic

Tomic keeps himself in the set with a good hold, clinched with an ace out wide.

Stuart MacPherson: @andy_murray is an absolute beast. I'm tired just watching him run from side to side. Incredible.

Jonathan Peel: Andy Murray is unbelievable, Tomic can't get a shot past him at the minute.

  45. Post update

    Murray 7-5 4-1 Tomic*

    Andy Murray serves

Murray reaches into his quiver and plucks out three aces. He's almost unplayable in this mood.

  46. Murray breaks

    *Murray 7-5 3-1 Tomic

Murray's coverage of the baseline is just extraordinary, moving speedily from side to side like a motorised crab. Tomic goes corner to corner with big groundstrokes but Murray keeps getting them back. A backhand winner gives Murray 0-30, and then more brilliant defence forces the Aussie to net with a smash. Three break points, and this time Murray only needs one as Tomic nets. Murray on the charge, his adoring home crowd loving it.

  47. Post update

  48. Post update

    John Lloyd

Former British number one on BBC Two

"There are times when Tomic is looking at his team-mates as if to ask 'what have I got to do to win a point?'"

  49. Post update

    Murray 7-5 2-1 Tomic*

Oh yes - utterly brilliant from Murray, trading ripping groundstrokes with Tomic, luring him into the net and then coaxing a lob over his head in the perfect parabola. Tomic has his hands on his hips, but he's not giving up - he foxes Murray with a beautifully disguised drop shot that's every bit as good. That's all the change he's getting out of that game though - Murray continues to make good progress on serve.

  50. Post update

    *Murray 7-5 1-1 Tomic

That's better from Tomic - some big gunslinging groundstrokes from the baseline give him an authoritative love hold.

  51. Post update

    Andy Murray
  52. Post update

    Murray 7-5 1-0 Tomic*

Murray begins the second set as he did the first, with an ace. Tomic is making too many mistakes from the back of the court, a forehand into the tape and a missed return derailing his effort to break in this game. Then the big Aussie tries to give Murray a taste of his own medicine, only for Murray to lick the spoon clean - a drop shot is easily chased down and battered back past him.

  53. Post update

    Andrew Castle

    BBC tennis commentator

"There's only one man that can match Andy Murray physically and that's Novak Djokovic. Tomic is looking up the face of the Eiger to win this in five sets."

  54. Post update

    Jamie Baker

Former British Davis Cup player on BBC Two

"The tension is unbelievable. I thought he used the drop shot really well early on and you could see the belief fade in Tomic, but Tomic got back into it to test Andy."

  55. Murray wins first set

    *Murray 7-5 Tomic

    Andy Murray celebrates

Can Tomic serve out to take us to a tie-break? A mammoth rally on the first point ends with Tomic putting a backhand into the net, and then a beautiful knifed approach right onto the baseline from Murray ties Tomic up and allows him to put away an easy volley. And then Tomic goes for too much with a backhand and it's three set points.

Tomic saves the first with a barrage of belligerent groundstrokes, then a big serve and forehand sees off the second. But once again it's third time lucky for Murray as a magnificent drop shot leaves Tomic stranded! Murray a set to the good.

That's a tremendous game from Murray, a no-nonsense hold of serve clinched with a big forehand winner re-stamps his authority on this set.

Cameron Fawcett: @andy_murray is just a different gravy. Some of the balls he gets back, and gets back deep are ridiculous!

  59. Post update

    *Murray 5-5 Tomic

Murray, swearing like a Glasgow docker who's just stubbed his toe as he retreats to his chair, gets a warning from umpire Pascal Maria for bad language. I don't think he actually said 'naughty naughty', but that was about the gist of it.

Back on court, Tomic changes it up with a couple of serve-volleys and cruises through a comfortable hold against an increasingly ill-tempered Murray.

  60. Post update

    John Lloyd

Former British number one on BBC Two

"That was the worst passage of points we've seen from Andy in this whole tie. There were a number of poor shots and that's because of the tension. He got nervous. Tomic came at him but Murray made a lot of errors and Murray got frustrated."

  61. Tomic breaks back

    Murray 5-4 Tomic*

Tomic disturbs Murray's composure with an inspired challenge that reveals his shot just fractionally clipped the line. His face! He looks like he's just a found a forgotten packet of Rolos in his jacket pocket. Then he rifles a backhand through the court and suddenly it's 30-30. Murray frames a backhand and he's staring at break point.

He saves it with a big serve-forehand double-whammy. Another big serve gives Murray set point, but Tomic saves it with an absolutely superb point, sealed with a diving backhand winner down the line. Murray, who suddenly looks uptight and a little grouchy, double-faults. And then he spoons a backhand into the tramlines. Well well well.

  62. Post update

    Piers Newbery

    BBC Sport in Glasgow

"'We love you, Leon!' I'm fairly certain Leon Smith could have walked down most streets in Glasgow unnoticed at the beginning of 2015, but the GB captain's profile is growing by the day here. Among a number of hugely presumptuous questions is what will Smith's future hold should Britain go all the way this year?"

  63. Get involved via #bbctennis

Adam Pake: If Tomic can't take advantage of Andy's second serves, he might as well give up now because he won't get much else out of him.

  64. Post update

    *Murray 5-3 Tomic

    Bernard Tomic in action

Tomic uncorks a lovely top-spin forehand right onto the line and then troubles the titanium pigment again with a big ace down the T. Murray thinks about challenging and then decides against it, prompting umpire Pascal Maria to frantically exclaim 'Cancel challenge, cancel challenge' like a cross between a tennis umpire and a supermarket self-service checkout. Murray to serve for the set.

  65. Post update

    Murray 5-2 Tomic*

Phwoar, Murray is absolutely bludgeoning the double-hander - he leaps into a backhand and sends it scorching cross-court. Tomic doesn't bother moving. A shanked forehand over the baseline doesn't help his cause and Murray is cantering towards this first set.

  66. Fanatics in force

    Australia fans

Australian fans are also making plenty of noise in the hope of inspiring their man. But will it be in vain?

  67. Post update

    *Murray 4-2 Tomic

Murray can lob with the best of them, as he showed in the doubles yesterday, but they've got to be pretty good against the lofty Tomic - the Brit doesn't get the requisite arc on one and Tomic bats it disdainfully out of the sky. A solid hold for the Aussie.

  68. Post update

    Murray 4-1 Tomic*

There's that drop shot again. Tomic is no Novak Djokovic when he's sliding, more like a giraffe on roller skates, and he can't get this one back either. Still, he's got some big weapons in the locker, as he shows when he absolutely belts a first serve back past Murray for a clean return winner. But Murray finishes the deal with a big serve. Break consolidated.

  69. Post update

    John Lloyd

Former British number one on BBC Two

"What a message that throws out. Tomic has played one of the best points he's ever played and still lost it."

  70. Murray breaks

    *Murray 3-1 Tomic

    Andy Murray in action

Murray is hanging in these rallies and forcing Tomic to go for too much. A forehand flies just long and then a backhand disappears into the tramlines to bring up 0-30 for Murray.

The gangly Tomic never looks entirely comfortable snaking out those long limbs at the net and he prods a volley wide to give Murray three break points. A big serve saves one, a forehand winner takes care of the second. Can Murray take his third opportunity? Tomic thinks he's got this point won two or three times but Murray keeps getting the ball back, sending a superb defensive lob right onto the baseline and eventually forcing Tomic to net with a backhand. Murray in charge.

  71. Post update

    Murray 2-1 Tomic*

An artistic little drop shot from Andy Murray gets Big Bernie whirring those long legs, to no avail. Good change-up against the 6ft 5 Tomic, that. Murray finishes a hold to love with an emphatic forehand winner.

  72. Post update

    *Murray 1-1 Tomic

    Bernard Tomic in action

Lleyton Hewitt is on his feet in the Australia box, face reddening as he barks orders at Bernard Tomic. I'm not sure 'motivational' would be the word I'd use; 'terrifying', perhaps.

Murray caresses a backhand down the line to serve notice of his intent and then a whipped top-spin forehand into the same corner takes him to deuce. A big serve and a lovely forehand into the corner get Tomic out of trouble and quell Hewitt's blood pressure for the time being.

  73. Post update

Murray 1-0 Tomic* (*denotes next to serve)

Any stiffness in those Murray joints after yesterday's exertions? Or has the time-honoured combination of ice bath and sushi done the trick? It certainly looks that way as Murray belts down a couple of aces on his way to a comfortable hold. Just the job.

Andy Murray and Australia"s Bernard Tomic

    GB fans

As ever, the atmosphere at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow is absolutely crackling. A rousing chorus of 'The Bonny Banks o' Loch Lomond' from the crowd, and we're almost ready to go. Murray to serve...

  76. Player's view

    GB fans

Jamie Murray on BBC Two: "There's a lot of expectation on Andy but he's used to that. It might take him a little while to get into the match after yesterday but hopefully he'll be OK.

"The team has come a long way and worked so hard to get this far and it would be nice to top it off with a win."

  77. Meanwhile in Brussels...

Interesting developments in the other semi-final - Argentina's number one Leonardo Mayer is out of the reverse singles, meaning that world number 68 Diego Schwartzman will take on David Goffin. The odds on a Britain v Belgium final just got a little shorter...

  78. Get involved via #bbctennis

Alex Haworth: I might look back on this comment with regret, but there's absolutely no way that Murray is going to lose against Tomic today.

Billy Carr: Gone with the tennis to start with. Would love to see GB in a Davis Cup final!! Come on Andy!!! Again.

Yep, the pick of the day's sporting events...but then we're biased.

  79. A Tomic weapon

    Bernard Tomic

However, one man who might have something to say about is Australia's Bernard Tomic, who has a pretty handy Davis Cup record of his own.

The 22-year-old has won 15 of his 17 matches, with Stan Wawrinka among the victims on his impressive resume.

Add into the bargain an extra day of rest while Murray was slogging his guts out in the doubles, and it's fair to say today's encounter will be anything but a formality for the British number one.

  80. Post update

    Jamie Baker

Former British Davis Cup player on BBC Two

"When you boil it down to the competitive nature of Murray v Tomic, it's man against boy."

  81. Magnificent Murray

    Andy Murray

Here's a stat for you: yesterday's victory in the doubles means Andy Murray has now won 20 of his last 21 Davis Cup matches. His sole defeat in that run came against Fabio Fognini in Rome last year.

To put that in context, Novak Djokovic has won 16 of his last 21 Davis Cup matches, while Roger Federer has emerged victorious in just 14.

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but if Murray can lead Britain to victory in this year's tournament, he will be only the fourth player ever to win the Davis Cup, multiple Grand Slams, and Olympic gold.

  82. In the other semi-final...

    Leonardo Mayer

Argentina lead Belgium 2-1 in Brussels and are one win away from the final.

The visitors won the doubles yesterday, with world number 39 Leonardo Mayer taking his Davis Cup win streak to an impressive eight matches.

Today Mayer will take on world number 15 David Goffin, and if that one goes according to the rankings, the tie could come down to a decisive rubber between Steve Darcis, ranked 64, and Federico Delbonis, ranked 65.

"All four Aussie players were out warming up earlier, although Sam Groth kept his jacket firmly on, so we can probably rule him out of a potential fifth rubber. Trying to stop Lleyton Hewitt from taking to the court against Dan Evans could prove too much for Masur though."

    Australia warm up
  89. Good afternoon

Hello and welcome to live coverage of the final day of the Davis Cup semi-final between Great Britain and France.

After the first two days, Britain are 2-1 up in the tie, meaning one win from today's reverse singles matches will see them through to a first Davis Cup final since 1978.

Britain will be banking on a win for Andy Murray in the first match against Bernard Tomic, but if Murray can't seal the deal, it will come down to a fifth rubber between Dan Evans and, well, we're not quite sure yet, as Piers Newbery explains...

  90. Closing in on the Cup?

    Davis Cup

There she is folks. The Davis Cup. 79 years we've waited to get our hands back on this little beauty.

Since Great Britain last won in 1936, this trophy has been on mantelpieces from Czechoslovakia to Croatia. But never has it been back on these shores.
