  4. Great Britain waits for first medalpublished at 14:03 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2022

    Simon Gleave
Head of sports analysis, Nielsen Gracenote

Great Britain's best medal performance since the Winter Olympics began in 1924 was the five medals achieved at each of the last two Winter Games, in 2014 and 2018. On each occasion, the first medal arrived in the first seven days.

The best chance of Great Britain winning a medal between now and the end of day seven of Beijing 2022 looked like being the men's skeleton which finishes on Friday. However, neither Matt Weston nor Marcus Wyatt have been within 0.9 seconds of the winner in any of the six training runs.

Great Britain have failed to win a medal at a Winter Olympics on seven occasions, in 1932, 1956, 1960, 1968, 1972, 1988 and 1992. Great Britain has won at least one medal at each of the last seven Winter Games, easily the best ever streak for Team GB.

Prior to this year's Winter Games, Gracenote forecast three medals for Great Britain in Beijing. The two remaining curling competitions and the two men's bobsleigh events appear to offer the best remaining opportunities of achieving that goal."

  5. 'No panic' over lack of GB medalspublished at 13:56 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2022

UK Sport chair Dame Katherine Grainger said she was "not panicking yet" after more Winter Olympics disappointment for Team GB in Beijing.

Big medal hope and reigning world champion Charlotte Bankes was eliminated from the women's snowboard-cross at the quarter-final stage on day five.

Great Britain's curling mixed doubles pair Jen Dodds and Bruce Mouat, also current world champions, missed out on a medal on Tuesday and GB are without a podium finish.

"We still have high hopes for the men's and women's curling teams, we've got the skeleton still to come, plenty more on the snow, so I think we'll still see Team GB deliver," said Grainger,.

"We're only day five. I was out in Pyeongchang (in 2018) and it was day seven before we saw a medal, so we're not panicking yet."

    Luge doubles

American duo Zachary Di Gregorio and Sean Hollander have just knocked Slovakians Tomas Vavercak and Matej Zmij off top spot with six of 17 pairs having had their second and final run.

Not long to go now before we get to the medal fight, when it will be all eyes on the two German sleds...

  7. 'I went into it with nothing to lose'published at 13:49 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2022

    Men's 1500m

Farrell Treacy continues to offer his reaction to finishing ninth of 10 in the Olympic short-track 1500m final: "There was a bit of nerves obviously. It's an Olympic final but I went into it with nothing to lose here, I'm not expecting anything so it's only a win-win.

"This one was to try and be in the middle of the track and then with how fast it was moving early doors I feel like I was trying to save energy.

"People were nicking places and I didn't want to get involved in it, see how my legs were at the end and they just weren't there - so I take heart for the Olympic final.

"I got a national record so the time was good, it's an Olympic final so it's going to be fast but just a bit too much for me today."

BBC Sport pundits Lizzy Yarnold and Sarah Lindsay are quick to point out Farrell Treacy's event is not funded, so his achievement in reaching a final is even more impressive.

    Sarah Lindsay
Three-time Olympic short track speed skater on BBC TV

This is huge for us. People don't get to watch short-track. Everybody who watches it for the first time, they love it. It's only shown every four years. To have someone represent GB in such a good way and on such a big stage is so encouraging.

    Men's 1500m

Here is Farrell Treacy after finishing ninth of 10: "To make an Olympic final is an achievement for me. I didn't think it was going to happen. I didn't I was going to be here four weeks ago.

"So to be in an Olympic final makes these Games extra sweet especially with how bad the first day was."

  11. Luge doubles to be decidedpublished at 13:41 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2022

    Luge doubles

Time for the luge doubles to be settled.

A reminder that German duo Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt set the fastest time after the first run as they chase an unprecedented third consecutive doubles title, crossing the line 0.045 seconds faster than compatriots Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken.

The athletes will race in reverse order of the rankings after that first run, so we won't know who wins gold until the very last run.

Could we have a surprise in the men's curling? The Russian Olympic Committee lead defending champions the United States 3-2 after five ends at the National Aquatic Centre.

It's a right old ding-dong battle between Denmark and Canada - it is currently 5-4 to the Canadians at the halfway stage.

Elsewhere, Norway lead Switzerland 3-2, while Sweden are 3-1 up against China.

    Wilf O’Reilly
Former British short track speed skater on BBC TV

A fabulous race, ten skaters, Hwang Dea-heon of Korea got the penalty in the 1000m a couple of days ago and clearly won this 1500m.

It was marvellous performance by Farrell Treacy, didn't actually participate very much in the making of the race, was very much following the rest of the group but again it was magnificent performance for him to even be in this final.

That was a tremendous final, we have a worthy winner Hwang Dea-heon.

But it was a final that included a British skater, Farrell Treacy, his best Olympic performance by far in making it though to an Olympic final and a ten-man Olympic final at that.

Hwang Dea-heon is home in 2 minutes and nine seconds.

Farrell Treacy back in ninth was 2 minutes and 12.
