    "I wish it went on a little longer, I know people wanted to see a scrap, but what do you do, I just hit too hard," Hughes said.

    "I made my professional debut in this exact arena over eight years ago and every single time I drove past it I said, 'I am going to fight there someday' and tonight my dream came true.

    "We’re a small wee country but we’re doing big things on the world stage. I hope I represent you all well, because I am going to the top."

    And on his potential rematch with Usman, Hughes said: "Usman Nurmagomedov! You can run and you can try delay this rematch as long as you want, but your day is coming."

    Paul Hughes lost his most recent fight in January on majority decision against Usman Nurmagomedov, who retained the now defunct Bellator lightweight title.

    He would like a rematch with Nurmagomedov, so a win tonight is imperative to the hopes of that happening.

    Before that bout that really thrust him into the limelight, he shocked AJ McKee on split decision to claim a big victory in his PFL debut and also beat Bobby King, Fabiano Silva and Jan Quaeyhaegens by knockout.

    Paul Hughes is promising to win in "devastating fashion" after his rise to MMA prominence led to the Professional Fighters League (PFL) returning to Belfast for tonight's bill.

    Hughes is going into his first contest since narrowly losing to Bellator lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov in a thrilling contest in Dubai in January.

    "It feels very special that I have effectively dragged the PFL back here," Hughes told BBC Sport NI.

    "I think when the PFL see what we can bring here in Belfast, we are a fighting people, and they'll want to come back every year and why wouldn't they?

    "Especially with the noise on Saturday night and the performance that I am going to put in, I would love to see it in the schedule every year."

    There were loud audible gasps when Connor Hughes landed the stunning knockout blow on Sebastien Di Franco on the undercard.

    Sections of travelling Lewis McGrillen fans celebrated his win, much to the disappointment of the large home support for Alan Philpott.

    It's certainly filling up nicely in here before the main event. The crowd are on their feet giving a loud rendition of Neil Diamond's 'Sweet Caroline'.

    First of all, let's look at what happened on the undercard. There have been a host of PFL Europe tournament fights tonight and some decent finishes.

    In the co-main event, Lewis McGrillen got his first submission victory by beating home favourite Alan Philpott (bantamweight).

    Conor Hughes knocked out Sebastien Di Franco in the second-round to set up a semi-final with Gino Van Steenis (lightweight quarter-final).

    Van Steenis beat Decky McAleenan by unanimous decision to move through to the semi-final (lightweight quarter-final).

    Haider Khan picked up a victory against Sean McCormac by unanimous decision (middleweight).

    AlexChizov went through to the semi-final against Claudio Pacella, after knocking out Mark Ewen (lightweight quarter-final).

    Pacella progressed to the last four with a unanimous decision win against Gavin Hughes (lightweight quarter-final).

    Eoin Sheridan won by a first-round knockout against Malichi Edwards (welterweight).

    Gemma Auld got the second-round submission against Sammy-Jo Luxton (women's flyweight).

    Cory McLaughlin beat Nahom Wedi by unanimous decision (flyweight).
