Michael Laverty finished 16th and just one place out of the points in the German Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Paul Bird team rider from Toomebridge was chasing a second points position of the season after coming 13th at Jerez in May.

Laverty was 69 seconds behind winner Marc Marquez at Sachsenring with Britain's Cal Crutchlow second and Valentino Rossi in third.

Repsol Honda's Marquez moves top of the championship standings on 138 points.

The Spaniard started on pole, but lost places to first Rossi and then Stefan Bradl.

However, by lap six Marquez had clawed his way to the front, where he remained for the rest of the race.

Crutchlow pushed hard in the final few laps but, despite his best efforts, could not find enough to catch Marquez.
