Moto2: Injured Scott Redding passed fit to race in Japan

British rider Scott Redding has been declared fit to ride in this weekend's penultimate Moto2 race in Japan after passing a medical.

The 20-year-old broke his wrist in a crash in qualifying in Australia last weekend and missed the race.

He had surgery in Melbourne and had a plate and six screws inserted.

He said: "I have to undergo another assessment after practice on Friday, but I'll know straight away whether it's possible to race."

Redding had led the Moto2 championship for most of the season but fell behind Pol Espargaro last weekend after the Spaniard won the race in Redding's absence.

Espargaro now leads by 16 points with two races remaining, but Redding is keen to ensure that the championship race goes down to the finale in Valencia in November.

"There was no way I was going home after Australia, not when there was even an outside chance I could ride in Japan," he said.

"I've been working to restore the movement and strength in my left hand and, as the medical staff here at Motegi have now confirmed, I'm fit to ride."

Redding - who is hoping to become the first Briton to win a world championship since Barry Sheene in 1977 - has signed a deal to ride for Gresini Honda in MotoGP next season.
