Speedway: Swindon Robins secure Elite League final spot

Swindon Robins thrashed Birmingham in the second leg of their Elite League semi-final to book a place in the grand final against Poole.

After a convincing 55-35 win at Perry Bar on Monday, the Robins went on to beat Brummies 55-37 at home - sealing a 110-72 aggregate victory.

Reserve Simon Stead overcame a recent dip in form to post a 12-point maximum at the Abbey Stadium.

"It's been a long time coming," Stead told BBC Wiltshire.

"It's been a tough year so far but we can draw a line under that.

"The next two meetings are really where it counts. I've found a bit of form and some machinery that suits me."

Swindon finished second at the end of the regular season, two points behind Poole, but Stead believes the Robins are capable of snatching the title from their south coast rivals.

"We're not scared of Poole or worried about them.

"We're going to give them the respect they deserve because they finished top but I don't think we need to fear them," he added.

"We've just got to keep doing what we've been doing. We've been fantastic all season so there's no reason why we can't do it."

Swindon will host Poole in the first-leg of the play-off final on Monday, 8 October with the return leg a week later.
