Leon Haslam races at Donington Park after broken leg

World Superbike rider Leon Haslam completed a remarkable return from injury on his home circuit at Donington Park on Friday.

The Derbyshire rider broke his left leg during qualifying for the third round of the championship at the Assen track in the Netherlands three weeks ago.

Haslam, 29, who had steel pins inserted in the broken bone, passed his final medical on Friday morning.

He was 14th fastest in the first qualifying session on a wet track.

The Pata Honda rider, who had his fitness test on Thursday postponed after the doctor's car broke down on the way, told the team's website: "It's just over three weeks since I broke my leg at Assen and, while that might not seem very long, it feels like ages to me.

"Since the operation to pin the leg, I've been doing everything I can to get it ready to get back on the bike."

In February last year, Haslam, from Smalley, competed in a World Superbike race in Australia just three days after fracturing his right leg and breaking bones in both feet.
