Isle of Man TT: John McGuinness sets Superbike marker

John McGuinness set the Superbike benchmark as TT riders finally got their opportunity to record timed qualifying laps of the Mountain Course.

The 19-time TT winner made the most of the dry sunny conditions to complete four laps on his 1000cc Honda Fireblade, his fastest a 129.32mph lap.

New Zealand's Bruce Anstey came close to the Morecambe rider with a 129.14mph on his fourth lap.

Michael Rutter and Guy Martin both posted laps of around 128 mph.

Northern Ireland's Michael Dunlop retired at Glen Darragh on his opening lap on the Honda Legends Superbike, but returned and went back out on his Supersport machine, setting the quickest time for the class at 122.67mph.

The three-time winner then switched back to his Superbike and posted a lap of 127.66mph, the fifth quickest of the session.

Australian Cameron Donald was quickest through the Sulby speed trap at 191.7mph on the Wilson Craig's Honda, and sixth quickest.

Gary Johnson topped the Superstock times on his Kawasaki ZX-10R at 124.41mph.

British Superbike star and event newcomer Josh Brookes also impressed, posting a lap of 121.99mph on his Tyco Suzuki Superbike.

FelloW newcomer Branko Srdanov also topped 120mph.

Isle of Man sidecar star Dave Molyneux set the pace at 113.56mph, with passenger Patrick Farrance.

The session was later red flagged after newcomers David Saunders and Anne Garnish crashed at Graham's memorial on the Mountain section.

The pair were reported to be talking to medics at the scene and were taken to Noble's hospital for assesment.

The final qualification session will get under way at 18:20 on Friday.
