MotoGP: Marc Marquez man to beat at Silverstone

World champion Marc Marquez was again the fastest man in practice as MotoGP returned to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix.

Spaniard Marquez has been utterly dominant this season, winning the first 10 races before a fourth place in Brno.

The 21-year-old holds a 77-point lead over team-mate Dani Pedrosa and looks certain to win his second championship.

This weekend could be the final race at Silverstone - with the British GP set to move to Wales from 2016.

The yet-to-be built Circuit of Wales was handed a five-year contract for the race this month, with either Silverstone or Donington Park in the running to host the race next year while the new circuit is completed.

Marquez was second at Silverstone last season behind Jorge Lorenzo but has been almost unbeatable in 2014 and is a heavy favourite to win on Sunday afternoon.

He was quickest on Friday, ahead of Stefan Bradl and Andrea Dovizioso, with Lorenzo only 11th.

Nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi remains a crowd favourite and will be hoping for his first win of the season. Rossi, 35, has had seven podium finishes this year and won the last of his seven British Grand Prix at Donington in 2005.

A crowd of 159,006 visited Silverstone across the weekend last year - with 73,456 on race day - and home fans will have five British riders to support in the MotoGP class.

Cal Crutchlow has had a poor season since moving to Ducati last winter, only finishing five of the 11 races with a best placing of sixth, while Tech 3 Yamaha rider Bradley Smith is the leading Briton in the standings.

Also racing will be Scott Redding, Michael Laverty and Leon Camier.
