Kris Meeke retires on day three of Rally Sweden

Kris Meeke struggled in the snowy conditions before turbo failure in stage 13 forced him to retire from the event

Northern Ireland's Kris Meeke retired on day three of the World Rally Championship round in Sweden.

The Citroen driver lost power in his C3 when snow passed through the turbo after hitting a bank on stage 13.

Meeke had been sitting in 10th after struggling with the running order on Friday and he made little progress on Saturday.

Hyundai's Thierry Neuville leads, 22.7 seconds ahead of Citroen's Craig Breen and Norwegian Andreas Mikkelsen.

Meeke, 38, paid the price for being the fourth car on the road on Friday, clearing the fresh snow for the drivers behind and he dropped down the standings as a result.

He remained in 10th position despite the improved conditions on Saturday, before nosing into a snow bank on stage 13 which resulted in the turbo failure.

Contact from Estonian Ott Tanak, who was trying to pass the slowing Meeke in the stage, inflicted more damage on the Dungannon driver's machine and he was forced to retire from the event.

Waterford driver Breen has continued to impress, consistently posting top-five stage times to move into second place overall.

Claudy's Callum Devine lies an incident-free fifth on his Junior WRC debut, posting a best stage time of third on stage nine as he continues to learn the snowy conditions.
