Jersey's Serena Guthrie has described England's World Netball Series triumph as "the start of something special".

She was part of the England team which beat reigning champions New Zealand 33-26 at Liverpool's Echo Arena.

They had finished fourth in the group stages, but defeated Australia in the semi-finals before the final win over the Silver Ferns.

"It was a fantastic feeling to lift the trophy in front of our home crowd," said Guthrie, who plays for Team Bath.

"Since we won the bronze medal at the World Championships this summer, and the bronze at the Commonwealth Games last year, the team has really pulled together.

"It's become a true force to be reckoned with, I feel this is the start of something special," the 20-year-old added.

The Netball World Championships in 2015 will be in Sydney and England's head coach sees the win as a step towards a great performance in Australia.

Anna Maye said: "We are another step closer to our ambition of becoming world number one.

"I think we have to make sure we keep stepping forward, we have obviously raised the bar and expectations and the pressure is on us."
