Northern Thunder defeated Surrey Storm 57-55 on Sunday to clinch their first ever Superleague title.

Thunder, who were unbeaten during Phase One of the competition, had lost their previous two meetings against Surrey but edged a close-fought final.

Australian Janelle Lawson scored 33 goals for Tracey Neville's side, who had earlier beaten Hertfordshire Mavericks 57-33 in the last four.

The Mavericks beat Team Bath 46-39 in a third/fourth place play-off.
