Quad Series: England select 10 Commonwealth champions in squad

Ama Agbeze will again captain England as they look to build on their Commonwealth Games success by winning a Quad Series for the first time.

England, who finished second in January's series, face tournament co-hosts New Zealand and Australia in their first two matches before meeting South Africa in their final game.

The world number two side will be without key defenders Eboni Beckford-Chambers and Beth Cobden.

Ten Commonwealth champions are picked.

Bath defender Layla Guscoth returns to the squad having last played for her country in 2015.

Australia-based shooter Jo Harten has been named vice-captain, with Giants team-mate Serena Guthrie, who last week announced she will be returning to the UK Superleague for the 2019 season, also included.

Head coach Tracey Neville has recalled experienced attacker Sasha Corbin, who missed the Commonwealth Games.

England will also face world number four side Jamaica in a three-match series in October, before attempting to retain their Fast5 world series title in Melbourne at the end of the month.

Agbeze will captain the side heading to Jamaica, which boasts a mixture of experience and youth as England build up to a home World Cup in Liverpool in July 2019.

Uncapped defender Razia Quashie is in a 14-strong squad alongside shooters Ella Clark of Loughborough Lightning and George Fisher of Wasps.

Harten will lead England's efforts in Melbourne alongside Jodie Gibson.

Young Manchester Thunder mid-courter Amy Carter, who excelled last season in Superleague, gets a chance to impress in the shorter, faster format of the game, with club captain Emma Dovey also picked.

The team will be coached by former Loughborough Lightning coach and ex-England international Karen Atkinson, who stepped down from Lightning at the end of 2017 to move to Italy with her family.
