Welsh Feathers took a clean sweep in their two-match series against Zimbabwe as they defeated the Gems 62-41 in the second test in Cardiff.

Wales took an early five-goal lead to finish the first quarter 18-13 ahead, despite losing vice captain and shooter Phillipa Yarrington midway through the quarter to injury.

Some superb defensive work from goal keeper Leah Middleton and unforced errors from Zimbabwe centre Anifa Luya allowed the Welsh Feathers to extend their advantage, as they went into the half time break 32-23 in front.

Despite their best efforts, the Gems failed to claw back the deficit in the final two quarters as the Welsh Feathers continued to pile on the pressure and convert their goals to secure the victory and a decisive 2-0 test series win having won 50-42 in the opener.

Both sides return to action on Thursday, 7 November when they take part in the inaugural Celtic Cup in Glasgow, where they’ll face Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Post-match reaction

Player of the series Vicky Booth told BBC Sport Wales:

“I feel amazing right now. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I came into this with no expectations whatsoever, I didn’t even expect to get court time, so I’m over the moon with how it’s gone.

“The two wins on the trot is really important for us. We’ve come off a long block of training so it was good to get on court this weekend.

“It’ll be really good to get up there and back on court [in Glasgow for the inaugural Celtic Cup]. This was a bit of prep for us, so it’ll be really interesting to see how we go against two or three very different teams, especially Scotland.”
