Warrenpoint off the mark with Stangmore win

Warrenpoint Town secured their first Premiership win of the season thanks to a 2-0 victory over Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park on Tuesday night.

Dungannon wasted a series of chances in the first half and Warrenpoint punished the hosts just after the break.

Stephen Hughes showed composure as he slotted home a penalty after David Armstrong's foul on Ciaran O'Connor.

O'Connor sealed three precious points for Town by firing in from close range deep into injury time.

Dungannon keeper Andy Coleman spilled a shot and O'Connor was perfectly placed to pounce and slam home.

Stefan Lavery was among the Swifts players to go close in a frustrating opening 45 minutes for the Co Tyrone side.

Warrenpoint went into the game without a point to show from five games but they are now just two behind Dungannon in ninth.
