Isle of Man TT: Ivan Lintin seals lightweight win

Lintin's previous best at the TT had been fourth in the 2013 lightweight event

Ivan Lintin clinched his first Isle of Man TT win with victory in the three-lap Lightweight race for Supertwins.

The Lincolnshire rider won by 3.8 seconds from Hampshire's James Hillier, who had the consolation of setting a 120.848mph lap record in Friday's race.

Kawasaki-mounted Lintin was 38 seconds inside the previous race record time.

There was disappointment for Northern Ireland pair Ryan Farquhar and Lee Johnston, who both retired while challenging for podium positions.

Farquhar set the fastest speed in practice and had high hopes of securing a fourth TT win.

The Dungannon rider was second after the opening lap but was penalised 30 seconds for exceeding the 60mph speed limit in the pit-lane during his refuelling stop.

Farquhar was forced to park up his KMR Kawasaki soon after at Cronk y Voddy, and Johnston called it a day while lying third on the final circuit.

Johnston's retirement opened the way for Michael Rutter to claim the final podium position, 33 seconds adrift of runner-up Hillier, who was just unable to repeat his victory in this class in 2013.

James Cowton, Jamie Hamilton and Dan Cooper completed the top six in a race which saw four riders beat the previous arce lap record.

For RC Express Racing, it was their second consecutive Lightweight triumph as they won the same race with Dean Harrison on board 12 months ago.

"I got good pitboard signals early on, pushed on and here we are. I have made the dream come true," said a slightly bemused Lintin immediately after his win.
