Career highlights

Turner won his first major titles in 2010, clinching European and Commonwealth gold medals.

The third fastest British hurdler in history then took bronze at the World Championships in Daegu, having been upgraded from fourth after Dayron Robles was disqualified.

Career lowlights

His golden double came two years after UK Athletics withdrew his lottery funding because he was considered "too old to improve his PB or to make a major final". His funding was restored in 2009.

He had to help pay for his early career by cleaning toilets in a retirement home and driving an unlicensed taxi.

Did you know?

Originally from Nottingham, Turner was signed to Notts County - despite being a Forest fan - aged 12, but was let go two years later.

When he was 16, he beat Chris Tomlinson in the long jump - setting a National Young Athletes' League record of 7.23m; it was the first time he had long jumped and he only did it because his team's specialist was ill.
