Frankie Jones set for 2012 after Montpellier display

Rhythmic gymnast Frankie Jones looks set to compete at the 2012 Olympics after finishing as the top British competitor at the World Championships.

The 20-year-old ended the Championships in Montpellier with a score of 71.175, beating her total from Moscow in 2010.

The British trio finished 27th overall, with Russia finishing top.

Wales' Jones, the five-time British champion, made her highest scoring clubs routine of the year on the final day of competition in France.

Although Jones still needs her qualification for the Olympics to be confirmed by the British Olympic Association next summer, she is in position to represent Great Britain at the home Games.

"Providing Frankie stays fit and maintains a suitably high performance level, she will be nominated [to take the host nation place]," said British Gymnastics Olympic performance director Tim Jones.

"[This is] in accordance with the selection criteria by British Gymnastics to the BOA for their ratification."

The Welsh gymnast, who is based in Wellingborough, won silver medal for Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
