Teenage sprinter Adam Gemili runs in Team GB Olympic trials

Teenage sprinter Adam Gemili has confirmed he intends to run in the 100m Olympic trials.

But he is still unsure whether to run at London 2012 or in the World Junior Championships instead.

The 18-year-old Londoner would secure a spot in the GB London 2012 team if he finished in the top two at the Aviva 2012 trials this weekend.

He said: "I am very excited to get the opportunity to compete in the Olympic trials, especially for a home Games.

"I just want to go out there and run to show everyone what I can do.

"For me there is no pressure at all. I had no intention to even do these trials at the start of the year so the fact I'm doing them now is just a big bonus.

"I want to go and have fun and get some good experience racing against the top sprinters from Great Britain."

Gemili ran the Olympic A standard qualifying time earlier this month.

His time of 10.08secs made him the second fastest European this year after France's Christophe Lemaitre.

But the Blackheath and Bromley athlete faces stiff competition in the event at Birmingham with Dwain Chambers, Tyrone Edgar and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey expected to compete.

If he does land a spot for London 2012, the European under-20 silver medallist could decide to compete at the World Junior Championships in Barcelona from 10-15 July rather than in the Olympics.

Gemili's particpation in the trial continues his remarkable rise from obscurity.

He only started full-time training at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre in October having previously pursued career as a footballer at the academies at Chelsea, Reading and Dagenham & Redbridge.
