Russia's Zaripova wins steeplechase

Yuliya Zaripova added Olympic gold to her world crown by winning the 3,000m steeplechase by nearly two seconds.

It was an emphatic performance from the Russian who led the race from start to finish and the 26-year-old was barely challenged throughout.

A late burst from Habiba Ghribi ensured she became the first Tunisian woman to win an Olympics medal.

Sofia Assefa of Ethiopia claimed bronze, while Kenya's world number one Milcah Chemos Cheywa was fourth.

Zaripova's winning time of nine minutes 6.72 seconds was a personal best, but there was disappointment for her compatriot Gulnara Galkina.

The reigning champion was never in contention and pulled out two laps from the finish.
