British triple jumper Phillips Idowu is expected to be fit for London 2012, according to British Olympic Association chef de mission Andy Hunt.

The participation of the 2008 silver medallist, external was called into doubt last week when he failed to attend a pre-Games training camp in Portugal.

The BOA reacted by requesting medical records for a nerve problem in the 33-year-old's hip and back.

"Phillips is making good progress and we expect him to compete," said Hunt.

The 2009 world champion has competed only three times in 2012, mosty recently at a meeting in Eugene, Oregon, on 2 June.

Idowu reportedly picked up his latest injury in the build-up to the Aviva Grand Prix at Crystal Palace on 14 July, from which he withdrew just 25 minutes before the start.

Agent Jonathan Marks said his client was "incredibly disappointed and surprised" about the BOA's decision to make public the request to see his medical records, but Idowu complied with the governing body's request last Thursday.

If passed fit, the gold medal hopeful is set to compete on 7 August.
