Rio 2016 Olympics: Richard Chambers progresses to double sculls semi-finals

Richard Chambers and Will Fletcher were sixth fastest of the qualifiers for the double sculls semi-finals

Coleraine rower Richard Chambers and his British team-mate Will Fletcher have qualified for the semi-finals of the double sculls at the Olympics.

The Great Britain duo finished second in their heat behind fastest qualifiers South Africa to progress.

Chambers and his brother Peter were part of Britain's silver medal-winning lightweight fours crew at London 2012.

Meanwhile, Irish brothers Gary and Paul O'Donovan won their double sculls heat to progress to the semi-finals.

The Cork pair, the second fastest qualifiers behind the South Africans, clocked 6:23.72 to finish ahead of Italy (6:24.10).

Chambers and Fletcher clocked the sixth fastest qualifying time of 6:25.62.
