Guernsey rower Erica Bodman aims to make GB squad

Guernsey rower Erica Bodman says she is focussing on making the Great Britain senior squad.

The 23-year-old is one of six up-and-coming British rowers picked to attend a new high performance centre.

"They only select up to six women who they think can make it onto the senior GB squad within the next year," Bodman told BBC Guernsey.

"It gives me a definite focus for the next 12 months as to where I want to be," she added.

While Bodman is looking towards the 2012 Olympics, she feels her chances of making the London games could be limited.

"If there were any slots on the Olympics it'll probably be the eight," she said.

"But after the Olympics quite a few girls have said they'll be leaving the sport so that opens up a huge number of spaces for the up-and-comings from September next year," she added.

Bodman was part of the Great Britain eight which came fourth at this summer's European rowing championships.

"It was a higher level than everything I've done before and racing eights was quite new for me," she explained.

"It wasn't quite the result we wanted, coming fourth, but it gives us more drive and fire to achieve greater things next season."
