Coleraine brothers Richard and Peter Chambers have gold medals in their sights at this month's World Championships at Chungju, South Korea.

The pair are set to be named in the Great Britain team for their class, the lightweight double sculls, on Thursday.

"We haven't won a regatta final as a partnership yet but we have won heats and semi-finals," said Richard.

"We take confidence from our training, which we know is as good, if not better, than the rest of the crews."

"Mark Hunter and Zac Purchase had a successful partnership last year but we haven't looked at how they rode the boat or what they achieved - we are trying to make our own way.

"We've just come out of a tough training camp so we are as fit and strong as we have ever been and it's all about improving technically so that we perform to our best when under pressure at major championships."

"It's a new class to us so it's all about taking on a new challenge and seeing what we can do."

The Olympic silver medallists know they will face stiff competition in South Korea, allied to different conditions than those they are used to.

"Italy will probably pose the main threat, but there are half a dozen other crews in with a good chance, including Norway, Switzerland, Poland, the Netherlands and Denmark. France are quick too, but I don't think they are taking part.

"It's going to be very hot and humid but we coped alright at the Olympics in Beijing and they put on an incredible show.

"We're looking forward to it and it will be an incredible experience for us - culturally, it will be very different to anywhere we have been before.

"It's brilliant that they are taking the sport worldwide, especially to somewhere like Korea, where there is not a huge rowing pedigree.

"They are obviously trying to broaden the horizons of the sport and to win there with Peter would be very special - that's why we're putting in all the hard work."

The duo finished third in the last World Cup regatta at Lucerne last month.

Fellow Coleraine man Alan Campbell is set to compete in the single sculls event for Great Britain at the championships, which begin on 25 August.
