Coleraine brothers Richard and Peter Chambers secured a comfortable heat victory on the opening morning of the World Championships in South Korea.

The GB pair won their lightweight double sculls heat in 6:34.83, over 17 seconds clear of Greece.

Fellow Coleraine rower Alan Campbell had over three seconds to spare in his single sculls heat.

The Olympic bronze medallist came in ahead of Australia's Nicholas Purnell with Georgi Bozhilov of Bulgaria third.

Campbell led from the start and gradually pulled clear before easing to the line.

The Chambers brothers also surged into an early lead and the silver medallists from the London Games and led by half a length at halfway.

Greece's Pangiotis Magdanis and Spyridon Giannaros faded in the second half of the race as the Great Britain crew moved clear.

"We pretty much expected them (Greece) to be with us to 1k and then we moved on a bit in the third 500m, we waited to see if they would stick with us," said Peter Chambers.

"That was a good start and something we can build on."
