Chambers brothers third in World Cup Rowing regatta

Peter and Richard Chambers are through to the final at the World Rowing Cup event in France

Coleraine brothers Peter and Richard Chambers were part of the Great Britain lightweight four who finished third in the World Rowing Cup regatta in France.

The quartet recorded a time of 5:57.32 to come home behind winners New Zealand second-placed Denmark.

The GB four had qualified for Sunday's final by winning the repechage after taking third in their heat behind the Danes and the New Zealanders.

GB won the repechage in 6:01.27, beating runners-up China and France.

Fellow Coleraine man Alan Campbell did not compete in the single scull event at Aiguebelette.

The Chambers duo, along with Mark Aldred and Chris Bartley, found themselves part of a quality heat which could have been the final, such was the quality of the opposition.

The Denmark, New Zealand and GB crews were locked in a three-way battle early in the race, but the Danes pulled away to establish a strong lead.

The New Zealanders took second, leaving the GB quartet to negotiate the repechage.

Earlier this month, the Chambers boys secured a silver medal at the European Championships in Belgrade as part of the GB four.
