Hull FC director of rugby Shaun McRae says the club's interest in Castleford stand-off Rangi Chase is now over.

The Black & Whites almost signed the New Zealand-born England international, 26, before the transfer window closed in the 2012 season and said they were still interested in August.

"It didn't come off when we wanted it to and it's got very complicated," he told BBC Radio Humberside.

"We've all agreed now that it just can't happen."

He added: "We've tried really, really hard for months and we were confident that we'd be able to get him for the last few games of last season because all parties were keen.

"Unfortunately that got ruled out and then it got protracted with visa issues. We've put it to bed now and Rangi and Castleford understand that."

A player who could be turning out for the KC Stadium side next season is forward Martin Aspinwall.

The 30-year-old left the Black & Whites for Championship side Leigh Centurions last week but McRae believes there is a chance he could yet be a Hull player in 2013.

"There's a window in his contract that if a Super League club comes in then he can leave," he continued.

"We'd like to get Martin but just at the moment I haven't been able to come up with the right package."
