Jamie Soward relishing London Broncos' Challenge Cup tie

Jamie Soward says the lure of playing in the Challenge Cup was a big factor in his move to London Broncos.

The Broncos travel to Championship outfit Sheffield Eagles in their quarter-final tie on Friday.

The half-back told BBC London 94.9: "For a club that's had it tough in the league, there's still an excitement around about the Challenge Cup.

"I am looking forward to getting into that knockout play because you never know what will happen on the day."

Last month Soward joined the Broncos on a deal until the end of the season after leaving NRL side St George Illawarra Dragons.

The Twickenham Stoop outfit, who are bottom of the Super League table, have reached the last eight of the Challenge Cup after beating Featherstone Rovers and Bradford Bulls.

"I have come over to play against top English players in Super League but the main reason is to try and do something in the Challenge Cup," the 28-year-old Australian added.

"I am very excited but also very focused. You don't have to be doing really well in the league but you can have a good year if you do something in the Challenge Cup."

Sheffield Eagles are the only non-Super League side still in the competition but Soward is wary the Broncos must not be over-confident heading into the tie.

"Once I found out I was signing with London I jumped online and had a look at their squad," he said.

"The are an impressive team and are leading the Championship. They have won a few in a row and love playing at their home ground but for me that is just more of a challenge for us.

"We haven't had the results we wanted in the last couple of weeks going into this tie but we have looked at some video and fixed some things up.

"We need to concentrate this week and get the job done on Friday."
