Scott Dureau: Sydney Roosters sign Catalans playmaker on loan

Dureau played only eight games in 2013 after undergoing surgery to remove an eye tumour

Catalan Dragons half-back Scott Dureau has joined former coach Trent Robinson at NRL side Sydney Roosters after he signed on loan until the end of 2014.

Dureau has made just one Dragons appearance this season after he ruptured a bicep tendon in February.

Although the 27-year-old is now fit, Thomas Bosc's form and Sam Williams' arrival from St George-Illawarra have further limited opportunities.

He will also team up with ex-Catalans prop Remi Casty at the Roosters.

"With his desire to play again at the highest level, as well as our inability to keep him in the squad to have reached the quota of foreign players, we grant Scott's request to release up until the end of the season," said Dragons chief executive Christophe Jouffret.

"We preferred to let him join an Australian team rather than a Super League club against which we could play a qualifying play-off place.

"He will evolve close to his family and find a high level of competition with the Sydney Roosters."

Injuries during the last two seasons have seen the former Newcastle Knights playmaker go from winning the Albert Goldthorpe Medal and a place in the Super League Dream Team in 2012, to the fringes of the Catalans squad.

He played only eight games in 2013 after an operation to remove an eye tumour, and injury at the beginning of the current campaign again stalled his progress.

Super League rivals Hull FC were also reportedly keen on a deal.
