Hull KR have signed former Warrington Wolves forward Tyrone McCarthy on a two-year contract.

The 26-year-old made 41 appearances for Wolves before moving to Australian Rugby League side Northern Pride last year.

"I could have stayed at Warrington this year and been comfortable but I wanted a challenge," said second row McCarthy.

"I've developed physically and I'll be coming back bigger, stronger and probably the fittest I've ever felt."

McCarthy, who scored a try for Warrington as the Wolves defeated Leeds Rhinos 35-18 in the 2012 Challenge Cup final, spent four years in Super League.

The Ireland international was made vice-captain of the national team ahead of last year's World Cup and was a crucial part of Northern Pride's Super Cup championship-winning side.

"When we found out he was available we jumped at the chance," Rovers coach Chris Chester told BBC Radio Humberside.

"I've watched a lot of his games in Australia this year and he's performed at a high level so we're absolutely delighted that he's joining us.

"He does all the little things that maybe the fans don't see but coaches see. But one thing he's got is a very, very good attitude and that was the first thing that Tony Smith (Warrington Wolves coach) said about him."
