Salford Red Devils: Cory Paterson joins after boxing switch

Cory Paterson won both of his two fights as a professional boxer

Salford Red Devils have signed second-row Cory Paterson on a one-year contract, after he decided to quit his career in boxing.

The 27-year-old left Australian side West Tigers at the end of last season to pursue a professional boxing career.

The Australian forward has the option to extend his deal for another year.

Paterson, who has also played for Newcastle Knights and North Queensland, spent 2013 at Hull KR, where he scored seven tries in 17 appearances.

"It became apparent that Cory wanted not only to get back into rugby league but also that he really wanted to do so with us," said Salford owner Marwan Koukash.

"It is a great opportunity for both parties. Cory will come in and make our pack even stronger and for him it allows him the opportunity to continue to prove himself at the highest level."
