Super League: Warrington Wolves 14-22 Castleford Tigers

Castleford earned their first away win of the season to sentence Warrington to a fourth straight defeat.

After Jordan Tansey's early converted Cas try, two tries in three minutes from Stefan Ratchford and Ryan Atkins turned it round for the Wire.

But Luke Dorn's converted try levelled it at 10-10 by the break before second-half tries from Adam Milner, his first of the season, and Ben Roberts.

Kevin Penny pulled one back, but the kick was missed and Cas held on to win.

Luke Gale kicked three out of four conversions for Cas, who had suffered a defeat to local rivals Leeds on Good Friday.

But Gareth O'Brien was only successful with one kick for the hosts, for whom Daryl Clark was used off the bench against his old club.

The key to victory for Cas was their two scores inside three minutes after the match had been tensely locked at 10-10 for almost half an hour.

Prop Grant Millington made a superb midfield break, from which substitute Milner was on hand to take his pass and touch down for a crucial score with 15 minutes remaining.

Then Ben Currie's charge-down bounced straight into the hands of Cas half-back Gale, who raced 60 metres to set up the position from which Roberts claimed what proved the match-winning try - his first for the club.

Warrington coach Tony Smith:

"We made way too many errors which cost us. We are not quite gelling in our combinations at the moment right across the park.

"It's about us hanging in there and sticking together and working hard to turn things around. We are hurting at the moment and I know the fans are as well.

"The Warrington people have been right behind their team since I've been here through thick and thin. We are going through a little bit of a thin time and it's a good time for us all to stick together.

"We will come through this and repay them for their faith. The only way to gain confidence is to work hard and practise hard. We will do that, get back on a roll and feel good about ourselves again.

Castleford coach Daryl Powell:

"In terms of courage, effort and determination, that's the best since I've seen at the club. Having to come away to Warrington in the second game over Easter, after playing a real physical game against Leeds on Friday, what the boys served up was superb.

"There were some massive performances from the team considering we had a day less to prepare than Warrington and collectively, the determination they showed to keep the opposition out when you are as fatigued as you are over Easter was a massive effort. We played really smart and deserved to win.

"We have played better with the ball. I don't think we have defended that well and to do it in the second game over Easter to keep a team like Warrington to 14 points is an immense effort.

"To play Leeds and Warrington over Easter is a tough old battle. The best way to go about it is tell the boys it'll be tough and get on with it."
