Rangi Chase: Salford star charged by RFL for dangerous throw

Salford half-back Rangi Chase faces a ban of up to eight games after being charged with making a dangerous throw at the John Smith's Stadium in the 18-12 Good Friday win over Huddersfield.

Having viewed Chase's tackle on forward Brett Ferres, the Rugby Football League have charged Chase with a Grade E offence on their code of conduct.

This carries a punishment of between four and eight matches.

Chase is available to play for Salford in the Easter Monday derby with Wigan.

But Ferres was kept out of Huddersfield's 20-16 defeat at Hull KR with an ankle injury suffered in the incident.

Huddersfield coach Paul Anderson was angered by the tackle which he says could leave Ferres sidelined for three months.

Seven other players have been asked to appear before an independent disciplinary tribunal on Wednesday evening (8 April).

Chase will be joined at Red Hall by Salford team-mate Weller Hauraki (Grade C), Widnes forward Danny Tickle (Grade B) and Hull KR prop Mitch Allgood (Grade A).

Four other players - Widnes hooker Lloyd White, Warrington prop Anthony England, Hull KR back-rower Maurice Blair and Hull FC utility back Jordan Rankin have all been charged for offences too and have until 11:00 BST on Wednesday to submit early-guilty pleas.
