Hull FC reject Salford Red Devils postponement request

Salford had 12 players listed as injured or suspended for Sunday's defeat by Castleford

Hull FC have rejected a request from Salford Red Devils to postpone Friday's Super League fixture, and the game will go ahead as scheduled.

The Red Devils made the approach because of an "unprecedented injury crisis", with 15 potential absentees.

Devils owner Dr Marwan Koukash tweeted: "My club was entitled to ask Hull FC if the game can be postponed. We respect their decision in saying no."

Postponement without mutual consent would be deemed to be misconduct.

Salford coach Iestyn Harris had four players suspended and eight out injured for Sunday's defeat by Castleford, and a further four players picked up knocks during the course of the game.

Prior to making the request, Harris said the club were considering bringing assistant coach Ian Watson, 38, out of retirement.

That option was considered after Wayne Godwin - himself brought in as emergency cover from Dewsbury - went off with a head injury after a high tackle, while Liam Hood has a suspected broken thumb.

"Liam Hood has gone to hospital, Mozza [Adrian Morley] has turned an ankle and Godwin got smacked around the head and looks as though he's going to come under the concussion rule," Harris told the club website.
