Hull FC boosted their hopes of finishing inside the top eight in Super League, defeating Salford in a match that the Red Devils had attempted to postpone earlier in the week.

Hull had turned down Salford's request, which was made because their squad was decimated by injuries and suspensions.

Salford led for much of the game, with Kevin Locke, James Greenwood and Oliver Gildart all crossing for the visitors.

But Setaimata Sa touched down with eight minutes left to seal Hull's win.

Tom Lineham, Fetuli Talanoa and Mark Minichiello also went over for the home side, who climb to ninth in the table.

Locke brilliantly caught and touched down Theo Fages' high kick to put Salford ahead, but Lineham's turn of pace saw him go over for Hull's first try.

However, the winger's joy was short-lived as he was sin-binned immediately afterwards for comments made to the match officials, having earlier had an effort ruled out for a foot in touch.

Greg Johnson's offload bounced nicely for Greenwood to score for the visitors, before Talanoa's powerful effort brought Hull to within two points.

Gildart pounced just before the dead-ball line as Salford edged further ahead, but Minichiello powered over to reduce the gap to two once more.

And Sa scored the game-winning try was he dummied his way through to reach over the line to score.
