Hull FC strengthened their top eight push with victory to end Castleford Tigers' five-game winning streak.

The Tigers were on course for the top four at half time when they led 14-6, but three tries to after the break helped a dominant Hull record the win.

Cas are level on points with Huddersfield, who hold the last top four berth.

This win puts Hull two points clear of city rivals Hull KR before next week's derby.

Cas had not won in west Hull in their last four visits, including May's Challenge Cup defeat, and that run continued despite flying start.

The first half began and finished with a positive for the visitors, they led thanks to Denny Solomona's opener and despite Richard Whiting's try, further scores from Luke Dorn, Solomona again gave them a healthy lead.

However, Hull were much more intense after the break, with Tom Lineham grabbing a spectacular brace and Jordan Abdull bashing his way over the stripe and Marc Sneyd made it a seven point ball game with a drop goal.

Ben Roberts' score gave Cas a glimmer of hope but the home side held on to bolster their top eight hopes.

Hull FC coach Lee Radford: "Our bench was huge for us, It needed to be a 17-man performance too.

"It was good to give Brad Fash his debut and he was solid. It is a reflection of way he has played in under-19s.

"We had to scrap for it against a very good side, we knew Castleford would be tough and they didn't disappoint. At this stage, we'll take any win as it comes, it is a very important two points."

Castleford coach Daryl Powell: "The second half was abysmal and after being 14-6 up we were unrecognisable. The second half was as bad I've seen since I've been in charge.

"I think it was evident they wanted to win it more and we made too many errors. We had big opportunities and we are asking questions as to why we didn't take chances in front of us.

"We are still in a good spot and we need to learn lessons. We ran out of gas but then we found some at the end but we didn't deserve to win."
