Lee Smith's drop-goal handed Wakefield a 17-16 win at Leigh in The Qualifiers to boost their hopes of retaining their Super League place for next season.
Smith gave the Wildcats the perfect start with an early try.
But Championship winners Leigh, who beat Wakefield in the Challenge Cup in May, hit back with tries from Fuifui Moimoi, Jonny Pownall and Liam Kay.
Jacob Miller scored either side of half-time to level the scores before Smith won it with the boot.
The victory was Wakefield's second of the Super 8s phase and means they remain fourth in The Qualifiers table.
Leigh have lost all three of their games so far and are second from bottom.
