Super League: Leigh Centurions 26-37 Catalans Dragons

Catalans Dragons ended a run of five consecutive defeats with a convincing victory at Leigh Centurions.

Tries from Iain Thornley, Brayden Wiliame, Krisnan Inu, Louis Anderson and Richie Myler gave the visitors a commanding advantage at half-time.

Curtis Naughton went over for Leigh late in the first period, and Dayne Weston's try further reduced the lead.

Tony Gigot's try settled any Catalans nerves, despite Greg McNally and Sam Hopkins crossing late on for the hosts.

Gigot was making his first appearance of the season, having had a two-year ban for an "inappropriate exchange" with an anti-doping official reduced to three months.

The full-back's second-half try ended any hopes of Leigh earning a point, and helped his side climb above the hosts to eighth in the table.

Luke Walsh was perfect with his kicking throughout the game, surpassing 500 career Super League points.

Leigh meanwhile have conceded 37 points in consecutive games, with their poor first-half showing resulting in their third straight Super League defeat.

The newly-promoted side are ninth in the table and next face a challenging trip to second-placed Salford Red Devils.

Leigh head coach Neil Jukes:

"Our discipline was horrendous in the first half. In the second half we started showing up for each other but it showed how inconsistent we are.

"We are either really good or nowhere near the level which is acceptable in Super League. We are too hit and miss and have been for the past few weeks.

"All the guys are hurting but they will take it on the chin. I have told them all it was always going to be a tough season but we just have to keep working hard."

Catalans head coach Laurent Frayssinous:

"The first half was very good offensively and defensively. We were clinical with the ball and defensively we showed the right attitude. It was a pretty good performance.

"But on the negative side, Luke Burgess looks to have suffered a knee injury, which doesn't look good. Also Jason Baitieri has already got a plaster on his wrist and it looks like it's broken.

"It was good to have Tony Gigot back - he is a great player and he will get better and better. Maybe we needed to be under pressure to perform and that's how good teams react."
