Darnell McIntosh scored two tries as Huddersfield fought back from 14 points behind to earn a draw at St Helens.

After a nervy start, two tries from Theo Fages put St Helens ahead, before Adam Swift crossed to extend the lead.

McIntosh got the visitors' first points of the night with under 20 minutes to play as he dived over in the corner.

McIntosh's converted second try brought Giants back to within four points, before Sam Wood went over with five minutes left to earn his side a point.

Danny Brough had a chance to win the game for the visitors, but missed with a challenging conversion attempt from the touchline.

Despite their impressive second-half performance preventing a third straight defeat, Huddersfield have now failed to win in six games, the result leaving them 10th in the table.

The visitors also lost Dale Ferguson to injury in the first half, the forward having been taken off after sustaining a head injury.

Keiron Cunningham's St Helens side had won two of their previous three games after a difficult start to the season, but this point leaves them seventh after eight games, already seven points behind leaders Castleford.

St Helens head coach Keiron Cunningham:

"The mentality of the players was really weak in that second half. They thought the job was done in the first half.

"The game should have been killed off after half-time. That should have been a 40-point ballgame, no problem at all.

"But we just weren't good enough or disciplined enough and were lucky to get the draw in the end. We came out with a point but it feels like a loss.

"I say it to the group all the time, the team that usually beats us is the one looking back in the mirror."

Huddersfield Giants head coach Rick Stone:

"At 14-0, particularly after the last couple of weeks, we were still positive in the sheds at half-time.

"It will be a nice step in the right direction considering what has been going on.

"The effort was pretty good. Clinically we weren't perfect but overall for the 80 minutes everyone made sure their effort was up to the mark."
