Dean Hadley came off the bench to claim two of the six tries as Wakefield Trinity eased to their fifth Super League win in eight games this season.
Wakefield led 12-4 at the break, with unconverted tries from Bill Tupou, Tom Johnstone and Hadley, winger Corey Thompson briefly levelling for Widnes.
The rampant hosts then added three more after the break through Scott Grix, Hadley and Craig Huby.
Liam Finn landed three conversions to send Widnes to the bottom of the table.
He took over kicking duties after Sam Williams had failed with all of Trinity's first three kicks, as did Tom Gilmore for Widnes.
An unchanged Wakefield starting line-up earned their third straight win - their fifth in six games, to continue their climb up the table.
Six days after what many considered their best performance of the season - their 38-18 victory at Catalans Dragons - they continued their upward momentum to leapfrog champions Wigan into fifth.
It was the first time in almost 12 months that the West Yorkshire side had registered three successive wins to leave them in high spirits prior to next week's eagerly awaited Good Friday derby at league leaders Castleford.
