Michael Shenton scored two second-half tries to help Castleford Tigers cruise to victory against Hull FC.

Greg Minikin and Jake Webster tries helped edged Tigers 10-8 ahead at the break after Marc Sneyd scored the game's opening try for the visitors.

Two tries in three minutes from Mike McMeeken and Shenton put the hosts 20-8 early in the second half.

Shenton went over for a second time to ensure victory in between Hull tries from Bureta Faraimo and Mickey Paea.

Victory was Castleford's second at home since a heavy opening-round defeat at St Helens and saw them move above Hull into sixth in Super League.

For Hull, it was their second straight defeat away from home, their first coming against Wigan Warriors in the first Super League match to be played outside Europe.

The visitors piled the pressure on early, with Faraimo only denied by a try-saving tackle from Tigers full-back Ben Roberts before Sneyd dummied his way over for the game's first try. Sneyd added the conversion and went on to slot a penalty to make it 8-0.

Castleford's Jamie Ellis was instrumental in sparking Castleford's revival, looping a pass to Minikin to score from before Luke Gale converted Webster's finely taken try to put Tigers ahead for the first time.

McMeeken got on the end of an Ellis grubber kick for Tigers' third try, and that was quickly followed by Shenton grabbing his first.

Faraimo juggled a pass from Albert Kelly to grab the next try, only for Shenton to restore Tigers advantage before prop Paea pulled another try back with 13 minutes remaining.

Castleford head coach Daryl Powell:

"When we got to grips with the game, we were excellent. Hull started the better but, once we got going, that try just before half-time was pretty important, it helped settle us down.

"We haven't been fantastic so far but we're getting better and that's the key.

"We're on a bit of a slow-burner at the moment and can feel a lot more confident after today. We just need to keep improving."

Hull FC head coach Lee Radford:

"Any time we had a chance of getting back in the game we made a schoolboy error.

"You send messages to the same people but for whatever reason keep making the same decisions and that's the frustration as a coach. Hopefully the penny will drop for next week.

"We've gone from consistently at seven and eight (out of 10) across the board down to four and five. It's got me asking some questions. Mickey Paea was the only positive."
