Wakefield Trinity maintained their perfect start to the season and left Catalans Dragons without a point after four games with victory in Perpignan.

Ben Garcia's try and three kicks from Lucas Albert put Dragons 10-8 up at the break, with Trinity's scores coming from Reece Lyne and Tom Johnstone.

A third Wakefield try from David Fifita restored the visitors' lead before Liam Finn landed two crucial kicks.

Lewis Tierney hit back with Dragons' second try but it was not enough.

The win at Stade Gilbert Brutus moved Chris Chester's side up to second in Super League, equal on points with St Helens.

Bottom side Catalans suffered their fourth straight defeat, despite having France international Tony Gigot start in his first game since his ban for an "inappropriate exchange" with an anti-doping officer was quashed.

Despite Wakefield suffering an injury blow inside three minutes, with Kyle Wood forced off, they took an early lead through Lyne.

Garcia, however, powered over in response for the Dragons, and while Albert was on target with a conversion and penalty to give them a four-point lead, Johnstone went over in the left corner to level things up 8-8 in the 33rd minute.

While Albert landed his second penalty to again edge the French side ahead, Fifita's touchdown restored Trinity's lead immediately after the interval.

Finn converted to bring up 500 career points and then landed a decisive penalty soon after and Albert's failure to add the extras after Tierney's 65th minute score proved the difference in a tense finish.

Catalans Dragons head coach Steve McNamara:

"It's not often in rugby league that you don't get out of the game what you deserve.

"In our sport, the team that deserves to win generally wins most of the time. And we deserved to win tonight.

"We did enough to win and, unfortunately for us, given the position we are in, we ended up on the wrong side of a two-point game."

Wakefield coach Chris Chester:

"We were good in patches and not so good in others. We scored some good individual tries but we were a little bit scratchy with the ball.

"There were a lot of our guys who were off their game but we got the two points and that's all that matters.

"We're three from three and, if someone had said that at the beginning of the season, I'd have taken it."
