Super League: Salford Red Devils 24-8 Hull FC

Jack Littlejohn was one of four Salford players on the scoresheet against Hull FC

Salford earned only their second Super League victory of the season with a comfortable win at home to Hull FC.

Ben Nakubuwai, Jack Littlejohn, Rob Lui, who also kicked four goals, and Greg Johnson scored their four tries.

Having started the night narrowly ahead of bottom club Catalans on points difference, the win lifts the Red Devils to 10th in the table, on the same four-point mark as Hull.

The visitors' points came from a Dean Hadley try and two Marc Sneyd kicks.

In the week in which they sold Gareth O'Brien to Toronto Wolfpack, there were fears Salford might be short on creativity.

But play-making stand-off Lui proved an inspiration, capping an overall immense contribution with the game's key try seven minutes from time.

After Lui's early penalty, Jake Connor's grubber kick set up Hadley for a converted try before Sneyd kicked another goal for an 8-2 lead.

But, after Nakubuwai registered his first try for the club, Lui added the goal and then a penalty to turn it round by half-time.

Salford extended their lead 17 minutes from time when Littlejohn also got his first Salford try, finishing off a 50m attack that started with a break from winger Johnson.

Lui could not convert but sealed victory when he took on the Hull defensive line to power his way over.

His conversion made it 20-8 and there was still time for Johnson to score out wide and complete the scoring.

Salford head coach Ian Watson:

"We have been guilty of beating ourselves in some games this season but generally I have been happy with our performances.

"And the boys delivered tonight. It was time for Robert Lui to step up and lead. Both he and Jack Littlejohn did great jobs.

"We wanted to keep Gaz O'Brien. But he made the decision on the back of a very good offer for him and his family and I can't blame him for that."

Hull coach Lee Radford:

"Salford had more zip offensively than us. We were second best and I have no complaints with the result.

"Salford asked more questions than us with their kicking game. This was a hugely important game but we're very disappointed.

"We are missing some players and we need to get them back but that's not an excuse. Ultimately we couldn't get the job done."
