Super League: Hull Kingston Rovers 45-26 Leeds Rhinos

Hull KR's fourth victory of the Super League season moves them up to seventh in the table

Hull KR ended a three-match losing streak in Super League as they ran in seven tries to beat bottom club Leeds.

The hosts dominated the first half, crossing five times to build a 31-10 lead as Konrad Hurrell touched down twice in reply for the Rhinos.

Brad Singleton and Hurrell capitalised on errors to bring Leeds back to within nine points after the break.

But two penalty goals from Craig Hall and scores from Josh Drinkwater and Ben Crooks settled the Robins' nerves.

Hull KR had won 38-36 the last time the two sides met in the Qualifiers in September, and three tries in the first quarter-of-an-hour set up another high-scoring encounter.

Tommy Lee, Danny Maguire and Will Oakes all crossed for Rovers, with Hall adding a penalty to make it 18-0, before a good line break from Brad Dwyer set up Hurrell to race in to get Leeds off the mark.

Mitch Garbutt and Junior Vaivai dabbed down to stretch the Robins' lead and a drop-goal from Maguire put Tim Sheens' men in a healthy position at the break.

The second half was a scrappy affair littered with kicking errors from both sides, as the wind made conditions tricky.

Liam Sutcliffe took advantage after the Hull KR defence failed to deal with a high kick to feed Singleton and Hurrell added a breakaway effort, but the hosts seized back control of the game in the closing 15 minutes.

There was still time for Hurrell to steal the ball for his fourth try of the evening but David Furner's Rhinos have now lost six of their past seven league games and remain two points adrift at the foot of the table, while Rovers move up to seventh.

Hull KR boss Tim Sheens:

"I wasn't expecting for us to score as many as that in the first half. It was about taking the sting out of their win [at Castleford] last week, which we managed to do.

"The Catalans game and Salford game here were used as a reminder.

"We led those two games heading into the last 10 minutes, seven minutes in one of them and we got beat. So you have got to keep playing.

"We held together, kicked the goals we needed to kick and came up with some points at the end to put the icing on the cake. Still messy in some ways but courageous in others - it was a big effort."

Leeds head coach David Furner:

"That first half, 31 points, not good enough. Our completion was poor in the first half.

"I think they scored on their first three visits to our try-line. The contact wasn't good enough and they ran harder than us.

"We did a really good job of getting back to 31-22. I thought 'we are coming home here', but then all of a sudden, a little kick or someone missing their assignment gave them an opportunity at our end.

"Then any wind in our sails got taken straight out."
